Listen, lemme tell ya ’bout this thing, this “American Psycho #1 Comic,” or whatever they’re callin’ it. Now, I ain’t one for them fancy picture books, but my grandson, he’s always got his nose in ’em. He was tellin’ me ’bout this fella, Patrick somethin’-or-other. Says he’s a real piece of work, this fella.
This Patrick guy, he’s in New York City, they say. Big shot banker, or somethin’. But he’s got a secret, see. A dark secret. He’s killin’ folks! Can you believe it? Right there in the big city, killin’ people! Makes you wonder what the world’s comin’ to, don’t it?
- They say he drinks a lot, this fella. And smokes them cigars, too.
- And drugs! He’s takin’ pills and sniffin’ that white powder, they say.
- Just bad news all around, this Patrick guy. Bad news.
Now, this comic thing, it shows all the bad stuff he does. All the killin’ and whatnot. My grandson, he says it’s “psychological thriller,” whatever that means. He says it makes ya think, makes ya wonder what’s real and what ain’t.
He says this Christian Bale fella, he played Patrick in a movie once. Said he was real good at bein’ bad. Real good at makin’ ya believe he was a killer. Guess that’s what they call actin’, huh? Pretendin’ to be someone you ain’t.
This comic, it ain’t just a copy of the movie, though. My grandson says it’s got new stuff, new secrets ’bout this Patrick fella. New ways he kills folks, new things he does. Makes ya wonder how many secrets a person can have, don’t it? Makes ya wonder what’s goin’ on in their heads.
He says it’s a series, this comic. Five parts, or somethin’. Just came out recently, too. December, he said. He was real excited ’bout it. Said it was a “must read” for anyone who liked that Patrick fella.
Me, I don’t know ’bout all that. Killin’ and drugs and secrets, it ain’t my cup of tea. But the boy, he seems to like it. He says it’s entertainin’, even though it’s “horrific.” He says it’s funny, too, in a dark kinda way. I guess young folks find humor in strange things these days.
They say this Patrick fella, he don’t learn nothin’ from all the bad stuff he does. Just keeps on killin’ and takin’ them pills. Makes ya wonder if some folks are just born bad, don’t it? Makes ya wonder if they can ever change.
My grandson, he says the end of the movie, and maybe the comic too, it’s all confusing. You don’t really know what happened. He says that’s what makes it so good, the mystery of it all. Maybe so. Maybe it’s better not knowin’ sometimes. Maybe it’s better to just let things be.
So, that’s what I know ’bout this “American Psycho #1 Comic.” Not much, I reckon, but it’s somethin’. It’s ’bout a bad fella who kills folks and takes drugs and has secrets. And it’s got pictures. And it’s entertainin’, if you like that sort of thing. Me, I’ll stick to my crossword puzzles. At least I know what’s goin’ on with them.
