Well, lemme tell ya ’bout this Miss Joanie drama camp thing. Sounds fancy, huh? Drama? Like all them soap operas on the TV? My grandkids, they love that stuff. Anyway, this camp, it’s for the little ‘uns, you know, ages four to eleven. Imagine, four years old and already learnin’ drama. When I was four, I was learnin’ how to not trip over my own feet and feed the chickens. Times change, I guess.
They got this camp in Boulder, Colorado. That’s a fancy place, I heard. Pretty mountains and all. Camp’s on somethin’ called Glenwood Drive. Sounds like a nice spot. They do it all day long, from early mornin’ to late afternoon. 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, they say. Long day for them kids, but I bet they have a heap of fun.
- They play games, pretendin’ and such.
- They write stories, like those plays they have on TV.
- They even read them Dr. Seuss books, the ones with the funny pictures.
My grandkids, they love when I read to ’em. Though, I ain’t no Dr. Seuss, that’s for sure. This Miss Joanie, she’s got somethin’ goin’ on with the city folks, too. Parks and Recreation, they call it. Workin’ together, like makin’ a quilt, everyone gotta do their part.
They got this place, a playground and park, right there at the camp. That’s good, kids need to run around and get some fresh air. They eat lunch there, too. Probably sandwiches and juice boxes, the kinda stuff kids like. And when the week’s done, they put on a show for their folks and friends. Free, too! That’s always nice, free stuff.
I heard someone askin’ ’bout this camp bein’ on the computer, you know, virtual. But nah, not this one. Not yet, anyway. Kids gotta see each other face-to-face, runnin’ around and actin’ silly. That’s how they learn, ain’t it? By doin’, not just starin’ at a screen.
Oh, and they do special workshops on days the kids ain’t got school. Like this Veteran’s Day thing. Learnin’ ’bout playmakin’ and writin’ scripts. Fancy words, but it’s just tellin’ stories, really. We all tell stories, don’t we? ‘Bout the old days, ’bout what happened down the street, ’bout the weather. Stories make the world go ’round, I reckon.
So, this Miss Joanie drama camp, it sounds like a good thing. Kids learnin’ to use their imaginations, workin’ together, makin’ friends. That’s important, more important than knowin’ all the fancy words and numbers, if you ask me. Life’s ’bout people, ’bout connectin’ with others. And drama, well, it’s just another way to do that, ain’t it?
