OK, listen up, gonna tell you ’bout this 3-person play thing. You know, like them stories they put on the TV. But this ain’t no TV, this is for, uh… for folks what wanna act it out themselves.
So, you got three folks, right? Three heads, three voices. Like them fellas in the church choir, but instead of singin’, they talkin’. And they talkin’ ’bout somethin’ important. Maybe they arguin’, maybe they plannin’ somethin’ sneaky. Maybe one of ’em’s tryin’ to sell somethin’ and the other two ain’t buyin’ it. You get the picture?
It gotta be excitin’. Nobody wants to watch three people sittin’ around talkin’ ’bout the weather. That ain’t gonna get nobody’s blood pumpin’. Nah, you need some drama! Like that soap opera my niece watches, always someone cryin’ or yellin’ or runnin’ off with somebody else’s husband.
So, first thing you gotta do is figure out who these three folks are. Are they friends? Enemies? Maybe they related? Like, you know, brothers and sisters always fightin’. Or maybe it’s a mama and her two kids, one good, one rotten. That’s always a good one. Or maybe they strangers, stuck together in some place they don’t wanna be. Like a bus stop in the middle of nowhere. You gotta know who they are before you start writin’ what they say.
- Person One: This one’s the bossy one. Always tellin’ everyone what to do. Maybe they the oldest, maybe they the richest. Whatever it is, they think they in charge.
- Person Two: This one’s the whiny one. Always complainin’. Nothin’s ever good enough for them. They probably got a runny nose and always needin’ somethin’.
- Person Three: This one’s the quiet one. They don’t say much, but when they do, it’s important. Maybe they know somethin’ the other two don’t. Maybe they got a secret.
See? Now you got somethin’ to work with. Once you know who they are, you gotta figure out what they want. Everybody wants somethin’. Even that lazy fella down the street, he wants to sleep all day. So, what do your three people want? And do they all want the same thing? If they do, that’s a problem. Gonna be some fightin’. But if they want different things, that’s even better! More drama!
Now, you gotta write the words. Don’t gotta be fancy. Just write like you talk. Like I’m talkin’ to you now. Keep it simple. Short sentences. No big words nobody understands. And make sure it sounds real. Like somethin’ people would actually say. Not like them fakey things they say in them movies.
Don’t forget the endin’! You gotta have an endin’. Can’t just leave them three folks hangin’. Do they get what they want? Do they learn somethin’? Do they walk off into the sunset together? You gotta decide.
And that’s it. That’s how you write a 3-person play script. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Just gotta use your noodle a little. Now go on, write somethin’ good. Make me proud.
