Alright, so listen up, y’all. I’m gonna tell ya ’bout this thing, this…Canterbury Comic Cosplay Convention, or whatever they call it. C4, they say. Sounds fancy, but lemme tell ya, it’s just a bunch of folks dressin’ up like them picture book characters.
Now, I ain’t never been to one of these things myself. Too busy milkin’ cows and tendin’ the chickens, ya know? But my grandkids, they went last year. Said it was a real hoot. They saw all sorts of crazy getups. People dressed up like superheroes, them fellas in tights and capes, and them space warriors with the shiny swords. One of my grandsons, little Timmy, he even went as one of them “Power Rangers,” the black one, I think. Said some fella named Walter E. Jones was there, a real big shot apparently.
Anyways, they tell me it’s a whole weekend thing. An “epic weekend” they called it. Lots of stuff goin’ on. Costumes and cosplay, that’s the main thing. Folks spendin’ good money on these outfits, I tell ya. Some of ’em look real professional-like, like they just stepped outta the TV. Others… well, let’s just say they tried real hard. Bless their hearts.
- They got contests, too. See who can make the best costume, who can act the most like the character. My granddaughter, Sarah, she said they even gave out cash prizes. Imagine that! Gettin’ paid to dress up like a fool!
- And they got these “celebrity appearances” they talk about. Famous folks from them movies and TV shows. My grandkids were all excited to see some wrestler fella, but he didn’t show up. Disappointed they were, but they still had a good time. Met some other folks, made some friends. That’s what matters, I reckon.
Now, they tell me you gotta check the website to make sure everything’s right. The dates and times, who’s gonna be there and all that. Don’t wanna show up on the wrong day and find nothin’ but an empty hall, now do ya? They say Vet Tix folks even give tickets to the military fellas, which is mighty nice of ’em.
It all sounds a bit much for an old woman like me. All that noise and excitement, all them strange-lookin’ people. But the young’uns, they love it. And I guess that’s what matters. Keeps ’em outta trouble, at least for a weekend. Gives ’em somethin’ to talk about for weeks after.
So, if you’re into that sort of thing, this Canterbury Comic Cosplay Convention, this C4 thing, it might be right up your alley. Just remember to bring your wallet, ’cause I hear them costumes ain’t cheap. And maybe some earplugs, too, if you’re like me and prefer a bit of peace and quiet. But if you’re lookin’ for a good time, a chance to see some crazy outfits and maybe meet a celebrity or two, then go on and check it out. Just don’t expect me to be there. I’ll be home, watchin’ my stories and sippin’ my sweet tea.
And another thing, they told me this wasn’t the first time they had this shindig. Seems like this has been going on for a while now, maybe not too long, but it’s definitely catching on. It’s getting bigger every year, they say. More people, more costumes, more of everything. I guess folks really like dressin’ up and pretending to be someone else for a day or two. Can’t say I understand it myself, but hey, to each their own, right?
So yeah, that’s about all I know about this Canterbury Comic Cosplay Convention. If you wanna know more, you’re gonna have to go look it up yourself. I’m done talkin’ about it. Got chores to do. Them chickens ain’t gonna feed themselves, ya know.
