Well, howdy there, y’all! Let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout this here billiards thing and why it ain’t in them Olympics. You know, them fancy games they have on TV every few years.
Billiards, what is it?
Now, billiards, it’s like this: You got this stick, a cue they call it, and you whack these balls around on a big table with pockets. It ain’t like war or nothin’, you know? It ain’t like runnin’ or jumpin’ or throwin’ stuff real far. It’s more about thinkin’ and aimin’, like when you tryin’ to thread a needle, only bigger and with more balls. People all over the world play it, from China to America, even in them fancy places overseas, but it still ain’t in the Olympics.
- You got pool, where you gotta sink the balls in the pockets.
- Then there’s snooker, with them little balls and big scores.
- And that three-cushion game, where the balls gotta bounce around a bunch ‘fore they hit each other. Fancy, huh?
Why ain’t it an Olympic sport?
Now, them Olympic fellas, they like sports that come from fightin’ or runnin’ away or somethin’. Like shootin’ arrows or runnin’ real fast or throwin’ heavy things. Billiards? It’s more of a thinkin’ game, a gentle game, if you will. It ain’t about muscles so much as it’s about brains. Maybe that’s why them Olympic fellas don’t think it’s tough enough.
But I reckon it should be in there. Shoot, people all over watch them big billiards games, like the World Snooker Championship and that U.S. Open 9-Ball thing. Them fellas are good, I tell ya. They aim and shoot, and them balls go right where they want ’em to. It takes skill, you know? Just like shootin’ a gun at a squirrel, only you ain’t hurtin’ nothin’ but them balls. It ain’t just some barroom pastime neither; there’s real skill and strategy, like chess but with balls you whack.
Folks are tryin’ to get it in the Olympics
Some folks, they been tryin’ real hard to get billiards into the Olympics. They had a try near Paris a while back, with men and women playin’ together on teams. But them Olympic folks, they said no. They said no for 2024, in Paris. And they said no again. Now they hopin’ for 2028 in Los Angeles. Maybe them California folks will like it better. Who knows? It’s a waiting game, like waitin’ for a pot to boil, only it’s been boilin’ for a long, long time.
I heard they do things on ice, like that curlin’ game. They slide them rocks around on the ice, tryin’ to hit a spot. Seems kinda like billiards, only colder and with rocks. If they can have that, why not billiards? It’s got all the same stuff – precision, skill, strategy, and folks from all over the world playin’ it.
It’s popular all over the world
And it ain’t like nobody plays billiards. There are tournaments all over, big ones too. Even in China, they love billiards. There’s this Joy Billiards company over there, big as you please. So, it ain’t just a few folks playin’ in bars, it’s a whole world of billiards lovers. And I bet they’d all watch if it was in the Olympics.
So, there you have it. Billiards, a good game, a game for thinkin’ and aimin’, a game the whole world plays. But them Olympic fellas, they ain’t puttin’ it in their games yet. Maybe someday, though. Maybe someday they’ll see that billiards is just as good as any of them other sports. We’ll just have to wait and see.
It’s a real sport, folks!
Some folks think it ain’t a sport ’cause you ain’t sweatin’ much, but let me tell you, standin’ and bendin’ over that table for hours, concentratin’ hard, that takes it out of ya. It’s a mental game, and that’s just as tough as runnin’ or jumpin’, maybe even tougher sometimes. You gotta be sharp, gotta be focused. It ain’t just luck, you know. It’s about skill, practice, and havin’ a good eye. Just like anythin’ else worth doin’.
So, next time you see them Olympics on TV, remember billiards. Remember them folks all over the world playin’ it, lovin’ it, hopin’ it’ll get its chance on the big stage. Maybe one day, they’ll get their wish. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll get to see it on TV before I kick the bucket.
