Alright, so, you wanna know ’bout this CAL Sports RI, huh? Okay, okay, I’ll tell ya what I know. It’s somethin’ about them church kids and their sports, ya know? Like, them Catholic schools and parishes, they got this whole league thing goin’ on.
What is this CAL Sports thing anyway?
Well, from what I hear, it’s been around a long, long time. Since, like, 1935! Can ya believe that? Folks back then, they wanted their kids to play sports but, like, in a good way, ya know? Not all rough and tumble like them other leagues. So, they started this Catholic Athletic League, or CAL for short.
- They got all sorts of sports, like runnin’ around in the fields, what they call “cross country.”
- And then there’s that bouncy ball game, “basketball.”
- And that kickin’ ball game, “soccer.”
- And probably some more, I just can’t remember right now. My memory ain’t what it used to be.
It’s for them kids from places like Saint Rose and Clement, and that Saint Rose of Lima place too. Them fancy church names, they always get me mixed up.
Who’s in charge of all this?
Well, there’s this board, see? A bunch of folks sittin’ around a table, makin’ decisions. They gotta figure out when the games are gonna be, and who plays who. And they gotta make sure everything’s safe and fair, ya know? Like, no cheatin’ or nothin’. They had a big meeting recently, talkin’ ’bout basketball season. With all this sickness going around, it ain’t easy, ya know?
What about the coaches?
Oh, them coaches! They gotta learn a whole bunch of stuff before they can even start coachin’. They gotta take some trainin’, learn ’bout safety and all that. And they gotta go to meetin’s. Lots of meetin’s, sounds like. They even got papers to read! You can find ‘em on that internet thing, I think they call it a “website.” Something like *, or somethin’ like that.
So, what’s the big deal?
Well, it’s important for them kids, ya know? Gives ’em somethin’ to do, keeps ’em outta trouble. And it teaches ’em ’bout teamwork and sportsmanship and all that good stuff. And I guess it’s important for the church folks too, keeps them kids connected to their faith, I reckon.
Sounds complicated…
Yeah, well, life’s complicated. But at the end of the day, it’s just kids playin’ sports. Nothin’ more, nothin’ less. They run around, they sweat, they have some fun. And that’s a good thing, right? Keeps ’em healthy and happy. That’s what matters most.
And where do you find out more?
Like I said, that website thing. Or maybe you can just go to one of them churches and ask around. Someone there will know somethin’. They always do. Just look for the folks with the clipboards, they usually know what’s goin’ on. They might talk your ear off though!
Anyways, that’s all I know ‘bout this CAL Sports RI. It’s a league for them church kids, been around a long time, and it’s important to them folks. Hope that helps ya out.
