Well, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout this thing, American Indian music CD. Sounds interestin’, I reckon. Ain’t never been much for fancy music, but I do like a good tune that makes ya wanna tap your foot.
They say these CDs got music from all sorts of Indian tribes. Cheyenne, Ponca, Sioux, Navajo, Shawnee… land sakes, that’s a whole bunch! Never knew there were so many. Makes me wonder what their music sounds like. I bet it’s different from what we’re used to hearin’ on the radio.
I seen a thing that says some of these CDs, these American Indian Music CD, even made it to the top of some music list. Number 10, it said. Can you believe that? Must be somethin’ special if it’s gettin’ that kind of attention. People must really like it. Makes a body curious, don’t it?
One fella was sayin’ how this music is real authentic. Authentic Music, they call it. Whatever that means. I guess it means it’s the real deal, the kind of music them Indians been makin’ for a long, long time. Not like some of that newfangled stuff they play nowadays.
- Cheyenne
- Ponca
- Sioux
- Navajo
- Shawnee
They say the music’s got all these singers, Navajo and Apache. They sing different, with their voices all tight and up in their noses. And they use that high-pitched singin’ sometimes, what do you call it, falsetto? They all sing together but it don’t sound all smooth and blended like.
Now, I don’t know much about buyin’ these things, these American Indian music CD. But it seems like there’s a place called Indian House Records, or somethin’ like that, way out in Taos, New Mexico. Never been to New Mexico myself, but I hear it’s a pretty place. Maybe they got some good music there too.
They’re sayin’ this music’s a good way to learn about Indians. Learn about their ways, their songs, their stories. I reckon that’s a good thing. Always good to learn somethin’ new, even if you’re old as dirt like me. Keeps the mind workin’, you know?
This American Indian music CD thing, it’s got me thinkin’. Maybe there’s more to music than what I thought. Maybe there’s a whole world of sounds out there that I ain’t never heard before. Sounds kinda excitin’, don’t it?
They say you can even find music for that Indian flute. Songs of the Nations, they call it. Never played a flute myself, but I bet it sounds real pretty. Maybe I should give it a try sometime. Never too old to learn somethin’ new, right?
It seems like some of these CDs got a lot of songs from all over. They say these American Indian Music CD have songs from the Plains Cree all the way up to the Inuit in the Arctic. That’s a far piece, ain’t it? I reckon you could hear all sorts of different sounds on just one of these CDs.
This music is supposed to be a big collection. Lots and lots of songs. They say it’s like a whole bunch of different tribes all singin’ together on one little disc. Sounds like it would keep a person busy for a good long while, just listenin’ to it all.
I don’t know how much these American Indian music CD things cost. Probably more than I got in my purse. But maybe it’s worth it. Maybe it’s worth spendin’ a little extra to hear somethin’ real and true, somethin’ that’s been around longer than any of us.
Well, I reckon that’s all I got to say about this American Indian music CD. It’s got me thinkin’, that’s for sure. Maybe I’ll try to find one of these things and give it a listen. You never know, I might just like it. And if I don’t, well, at least I learned somethin’ new. And that’s always a good thing, ain’t it?
Maybe you can find your own CD. Then you can tell me all about it. Or maybe we can just listen it together. That will be fun.
