This summer, we got that music thing again in Apple Valley. They call it “Music in the Park”. I heard it’s gonna be at that Kelley Park place. Gonna have it every week, I reckon. Lots of folks go there, young and old. They just sit on the grass, eat, and listen to the music.
That Apple Valley music in the park, it’s somethin’ else. I went last year, you know. Saw a bunch of people I know there. That Johnson boy, he was there, selling hot dogs. Said he made a good bit of money too. Good for him, I say. He’s a good boy, that Johnson boy.
Music in the Park, Free for Everyone!
That’s what I heard, anyway. Free music! Can you believe it? Back in my day, we had to pay for everything. But these days, they just give it away. I guess that’s a good thing. More people can enjoy it that way. And it’s a good way to bring folks together, you know?
They got all kinds of music too. Not just that old-timey stuff. They got that loud, you know, that young folks’ music too. I don’t mind it too much. It’s good to see them young’uns having fun. Makes this old heart happy. I remember one time, there was a band, they sang that song, you know the one, about, oh, I forget. But it was good! Got everyone dancing.

If you is in Apple Valley this summer, you should go check it out. It’s at that Kelley Park, you know, the one near the old mill. You can’t miss it. It is big. There are a lot of trees there. You can sit under the trees and listen to the music. That is good. You can bring a blanket too. Sit on the ground. You can bring a chair if you want. But you gotta bring your own chair. They don’t got no chairs there. That place is 6855 Fortino St.
Food and Drinks at Music in the Park
They got food there too. Like I said, that Johnson boy, he sells hot dogs. But they got other stuff too. Hamburgers, I think. And that popcorn, you know, the kind that smells so good you can smell it from a mile away. And drinks! Soda, water, all that stuff. You gotta pay for it, though. It ain’t free like the music.
Last time I was there, I saw old man Hemlock. You know the fella, always wearing that same old hat. He was there, all alone, just listening to the music. His eyes were closed, and he had a smile on his face. That made me happy, seeing him so happy. Everyone needs a little joy in their life. I think the music makes people happy.
I remember that one time, a band played that song, you know the one… Oh, what was it? Something about a river. Or maybe it was a mountain. Anyways, it was a good song. Made me think of the old days. When I was a young girl, you know. Life was simple back then. Not like now. Everyone’s always in a hurry. It’s good to slow down sometimes. Listen to music. It helps.
I reckon I’ll go again this year. It’s good to get out of the house. See some folks. Hear some music. Maybe I’ll see you there! Just look for the old lady with the, well, with the old face. That’ll be me. We can sit and listen to the Apple Valley music in the park together.

Oh! And they got prizes! Yeah, they give away prizes. I saw one time, a lady won a big basket. Full of goodies. I don’t know what was in it. But it was big! You gotta be there to win, though. They call your name, you gotta be there. They don’t just give it to anyone.
So, yeah, that’s the music in the park. In Apple Valley. It’s a good time. Free music. Food. Prizes. Good people. What more could you ask for? It is a good thing for the town. It is every week, they say, every summer. I heard someone say it is Billy Strings who will play this week. I don’t know who he is. But if he plays good music, that is fine. I think I’ll go see that.
You know, that music, it does something to you. Makes you feel good. Makes you forget your troubles. For a little while, anyway. And that’s something, ain’t it? In this world, with all its troubles, it’s good to have something that makes you feel good. It is good to have something to do in the summer. It is better than sitting at home. It is not good to sit at home all day. You should go out. Meet people. Listen to music.
Apple Valley Arts Foundation and Music in the Park
There is this group of people. They put on this music. They call themselves the Apple Valley Arts Foundation. I think they are good people. They do this for the town. They want people to have fun. They want people to enjoy music. That is a good thing. They do not charge money. They do it for free.
I think I will go every week this summer. I like the music. I like the people. I like the food. I like to win prizes. But even if I don’t win, it is okay. It is still fun to be there. I like to see people happy. I like to see people dancing. It makes me happy. And being happy is good.
So if you are around, come on down to Kelley Park in Apple Valley. Let’s enjoy that music together. It is gonna be a good time. You will see. Trust me, I am never wrong about these things.
