Okay, so, today I tried to get my hands on a “Frankenstein” drama script. You know, the classic story about the doctor and his monster. It was kind of a wild ride, let me tell you.
First, I started hunting around online. I figured there must be tons of versions of this thing out there. And yeah, there are a lot. I saw a few where it says, like, “Hello I’m Viktor Frankenstein. I’m a scientist from Switzerland.” That’s pretty much how it starts in the book, so that seemed like a good sign.
Then I dug a bit deeper. I wanted something that felt… real, you know? Something with some emotion. I found another bit that goes, “I’m Viktor Frankenstein. I’ve been telling you about how my young brother was murdered and his nanny was executed for the crime. But she was innocent.” Okay, now we’re talking. This sounds like the kind of drama I’m looking for.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. There were parts that were kinda weird. Like, one script had the creature talking about its name, saying, “beat you! His name is Frankenstein! IN THE CREATURE’S HUT, BY THE FIRE Creature That name took me by surprise! The name of my enemy.” It just felt a little off to me. I mean, does the monster talk like that?
I kept looking. I found some stage directions that seemed pretty cool, though. One of them goes, “A game Russian crew works down on the ice to free the icebound ship, Bundled in fur coats to ward off the bitter wind.” It’s setting the scene and all, which I appreciate. It had the bit about the skyward part, that I saw where it said, “If you’d all direct your eyes skyward.” This was okay, I guess, but nothing special.
I stumbled upon a part where the creature talks about its life. It says, “I’m happy to tell you and Viktor Frankenstein my story. How I learnt about the day, the night, the hunger, thirst.” This was alright, I guess. It gives you a glimpse into what the creature went through. Not bad, not bad.
What I Learned
- There are a LOT of different “Frankenstein” scripts out there.
- Some of them are pretty good, and some are… not so much.
- It’s tough to find one that feels just right.
Anyway, that was my adventure for today. It was interesting, to say the least. I’m still not sure which script I like best, but hey, that’s part of the fun, right?
