Alright, so the other day I was in the mood for watching something different, you know, a break from the usual Hollywood stuff. I thought, “Why not try a Filipino movie?” But here’s the catch – I needed English subtitles because, well, my Tagalog is non-existent.
First things first, I hopped onto the internet to see where I could even find these movies. I remember hearing about Netflix having a decent international selection, so I checked there. Typed in “Filipino movies” in the search bar and bam, a bunch of options popped up. They had a good mix of genres too, from rom-coms to dramas. And guess what? Most of them had English subtitles!
Streaming service
-
Netflix: The first one I tried out was Netflix. I mean, it’s everyone’s go-to for streaming, right? The search was easy enough, and I found a few movies that looked interesting.
-
Hulu: It’s another one I tried, not bad either, but Netflix had a bit more variety for what I was looking for.
-
Amazon Prime Video: Then I looked at Amazon Prime. It has a collection of Filipino movies, but I was hoping for a wider selection.
-
Other Streaming service: There are some other streaming services, like Sony Crackle, Vudu, Tubi TV, and Pluto TV, but I didn’t get around to checking them out this time. Heard they’re worth a look though.
But I didn’t stop there. I also heard about this site called KissAsian. It sounded a bit sketchy, but hey, I was on a mission. Turns out, it’s actually pretty good for Asian dramas and movies, and yeah, they had Filipino movies with English subs. It’s a bit of a wild west out there with ads and pop-ups, but if you’re careful, it’s a goldmine.
I also found that there are some films with Indonesian subtitles, which is great, but English is what I was after, so I made sure to double-check the language settings. It’s super important to pick the right subs, or you’ll be totally lost. Some platforms let you filter by subtitle language, which is a lifesaver.
I ended up watching a couple of movies. One was a romantic drama that had me all in my feels, and the other was a comedy that had me laughing out loud. It was cool to see the different styles of storytelling and the unique aspects of Filipino culture.
I made a list of a few other sites like iFlix, but I got caught up with the ones I already found. Next time I’m in the mood, I’ll check them out too.
So yeah, that’s how my little adventure into the world of Filipino cinema went. It’s definitely something I’ll be doing again. There’s a whole world of movies out there beyond Hollywood, and it’s pretty awesome to explore it.
