I wanted a TV in my van for a while now. I figured it’d be nice to have something to watch when I’m chilling or when the weather is crappy outside. So, I finally decided to install a flip-down TV.
First, I had to pick a TV. I didn’t want anything too big, because, you know, it’s a van, not a living room. After checking out some reviews online, I went with a 22-inch one. A buddy of mine has a 19-inch and a 22-inch TV, he said the 22-inch one is a bit too big, but I still picked this one. I saw a brand called “Feihe” that seemed decent and not too pricey. Plus, it could run on both 12V and 110V, which is perfect for van life. I saw on the internet that this TV weights around 7.78 lbs, that’s light enough, isn’t it?
Next, I needed a way to power it. Luckily, this TV works with a 12V power source. That means I could just wire it directly to my van’s battery. I also got myself an inverter. This thing changes the 12V power from the battery into 240V, like the power outlets at home. That way, I could use the TV even when I was parked somewhere with a power hookup.
Now for the fun part – putting it in. I decided to go with a flip-down mount. That way, the TV would be out of the way when I’m not using it. I found a sturdy mount online, got some tools, and started drilling. Let me tell you, drilling into the roof of your van is a bit nerve-wracking. You really don’t want to mess that up.
After a few hours of measuring, drilling, and screwing things in, I finally got the mount and TV up. I wired everything up to the battery and the inverter, flipped the switch, and bam! It worked! I even picked up a streaming stick to watch my favorite shows and movies.
Here’s what I used:
- A 22-inch Feihe TV
- A flip-down TV mount
- An inverter
- Basic tools like a drill, screwdriver, etc.
- Streaming stick
Now, I can enjoy some entertainment no matter where I’m parked. It’s awesome to kick back after a long day of driving and watch a movie or catch up on a show. If you’re thinking about adding a TV to your van, I say go for it! Just make sure you get the right size TV and a good quality mount. Trust me, it’s worth the effort.
