I went to Bangalore last week and really wanted to see some good concerts, and I’ve always wanted to check out Carnatic music, so I thought, why not? I did a quick search for “carnatic music concerts bangalore” to see what was going on.
I found a bunch of websites talking about upcoming events. One of them mentioned some kind of play, but I was more interested in music. Another website had a list of concerts, but it looked a bit messy. There was this Facebook page with a lot of likes, talking about listing concerts in a calendar, which sounded cool, but it didn’t look very active.
Then I found something about Nadasurabhi in Koramangala, which seemed serious about Carnatic music. They do monthly concerts and a big festival in November. Sounded promising!
I also saw something about this “Unnati Utsav” event in August, which looked interesting. But I was there in March, so that wasn’t going to work.
Anyway, I ended up going to one of the monthly concerts by Nadasurabhi.
Here’s how it went:
- I checked their website and found the details for their next concert. They have these events every third Sunday at some hall called the Indian Heritage Academy.
- Getting there was a bit of a hassle, Bangalore traffic, you know? But I managed.
- The hall was pretty nice, and there were quite a few people, which was a good sign.
- The concert started, and honestly, it was pretty amazing. I don’t know much about Carnatic music, but the musicians were super talented.
- They played for about three hours, with a bunch of different pieces. I couldn’t tell you the names, but it was all very intense and beautiful.
Overall Impression
It was a really cool experience. I’m glad I went. I might not be a Carnatic music expert now, but I definitely appreciate it a lot more. If you’re ever in Bangalore and want to try something different, I’d say check out one of these concerts. You might be surprised!
