Okay, so I was messing around online the other day, and I got curious about something kinda random: who’s the tallest bantamweight fighter in the UFC? It seems like a weird thing to wonder about, but I’ve always been a bit obsessed with stats and details like that.
So, I started digging. First, I just did a simple search, you know, just typing “tallest bantamweight UFC” into the search bar. I got a bunch of random articles and forum posts, but nothing really solid. Most of them just saying ‘bantamweights are expected to be short’. It’s like, duh, I know that, but who’s the tallest one?
Then I did some digging:
- I started looking at different websites that list UFC fighters and their stats. There are a few out there, but it’s tough to compare because they don’t all have the same info. Some had heights, some didn’t. I clicked on something about fighter’s height and reach and stuff, but I didn’t really get it.
- I even tried looking at individual fighter profiles on the official UFC website, but that was a pain. I had to click through each one, and it was taking forever. And most of them just don’t mention about heights.
- Then I thought, maybe there’s a way to sort or filter the fighters on the UFC website by height. I looked around, but I couldn’t find anything. Maybe I missed it, but it definitely wasn’t obvious.
- After that, I figured I’d try some forums or Reddit. Maybe some other fans had already done the work for me. I found a few threads where people were talking about it, but it was mostly just speculation and arguing. It did give me some ideas, though. One guy was like, “Height matters because it correlates with weight, and weight with strength.” He was all worked up about it, but he had a point.
Honestly, I spent way too much time on this. I even tried making a spreadsheet to keep track of the fighters I’d looked up, but I gave up on that pretty quickly. It was just too much work for something so pointless, but I really want to know about it.
In the end, I didn’t really find a definitive answer. But I did learn that it’s not as easy as you’d think to find this kind of information. It makes me think, there’s a real opportunity here for someone to make a website or app that makes it easy to compare fighter stats. I can see some people saying there was one called ‘Maine-iac’, but I am not sure. If I were a developer, I’d totally be on that. Maybe I should learn to code. And there was a user saying “Barnatt is clearly the tallest MW. At WW.” I am not sure what it is though.
Anyway, it was a fun little project, even though I didn’t get the answer I was looking for. It just goes to show, sometimes the internet doesn’t have all the answers, even for the really specific, kinda dumb questions. I found a guy saying ‘In order for someone 5’0 to beat a 7’0 fighter the shorter person would need a massive skill differential and even then if the bigger person is the least bit athletic then they are in trouble.’ It kinda made sense to me.
Maybe I’ll try again another time, when I have more patience. Or maybe one of you guys knows the answer? Let me know if you do!
