Today I felt like diving into the comic book world, and I picked up “Knight Terrors: Action Comics #2”. It’s one of those things where you expect a simple read and then get pulled into a whole whirlwind of stuff.
Getting Started
So, first things first, I grabbed the comic. This one’s from DC Comics, came out in October 2023, and I guess it’s part of a bigger series called “Knight Terrors”. Honestly, I’m not super deep into all these comic book series, but I like to dip my toes in now and then. This issue is priced at $4.99, not a huge investment, which is cool. It was officially published on August 22, 2023, as the cover says, I learned that later.
Diving Into the Stories
This comic has two stories: “She’s Got No Strings, Part Two” and “The Stuff of Nightmares, Part Two”. I read them both, obviously. The Powergirl story was okay. But the Cyborg Superman one? Man, that was something else, it was better than okay. It really got me thinking about nightmares and stuff, you know?
The Whole Nightmare Thing
The whole vibe of this comic is about nightmares, which I thought was pretty cool and fitting. It’s part of this “Knight Terrors” event that DC Comics is doing. From what little I could gather, it’s about all these heroes and villains facing their worst fears. And, there’s this core miniseries with tie-ins about different characters. It’s fun and kinda creepy at the same time, I like it.
Action Comics, a trip down history lane
While I was reading, I got curious about Action Comics itself. Turns out, it’s a big deal! It started way back in 1938, by a publisher called National Press, which eventually became DC Comics. It’s famous for introducing Superman, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. That was like, the start of the whole superhero thing in comics, which is just wild to think about.
The DC Thing
Back then, people called the company “DC” because it was on all their comics. It wasn’t until 1977 that they officially changed their name to DC Comics Inc. It’s funny how these little initials became such a big thing.
Wrapping It Up
So yeah, that was my little adventure with “Knight Terrors: Action Comics #2”. I started out just wanting to read a comic, and I ended up learning about superhero history, the origins of DC Comics, and getting the creeps from some well-done nightmare stories.
This experience was pretty cool. Reading the comic, getting all these ideas, and then piecing together the history behind it all was fun. It’s like, you read a comic, and it’s not just about the story in front of you. There’s this whole history and context that makes it even more interesting.
I guess that’s all for my little comic book dive today. It’s cool how a simple read can lead to all these different discoveries. Makes me appreciate these comics a bit more, you know? It’s not just about the pictures and the words, but the whole world built around them.
