Okay, let’s talk about these dancing quizzes I’ve been messing around with. So, I stumbled upon this idea when I was trying to find new ways to keep my kid entertained and maybe, just maybe, sneak in a little learning too. It all started with some basic stuff, like comparing numbers and shapes. I’d put on some music, and we’d dance around. Then I’d shout out a question like, “Which is bigger, five or three?” He’d have to freeze in a pose that somehow showed the answer.
It was pretty hilarious to watch, and he actually got most of them right! So I thought, why not crank it up a notch? We started doing consonant and vowel sounds. I’d play a song, and when the music stopped, I’d say a word, and he’d have to do a specific dance move if it started with a consonant or a different one for a vowel. Man, that got tricky, but it was a blast!
Then, things got real.
- I wrote a bunch of sight words on flashcards, and we’d spread them out on the floor.
- The rule was simple: dance while the music plays, and when it stops, grab the card I call out.
- It was like musical chairs, but with words!
- He got super competitive, diving for those cards like his life depended on it.
Sight words became our next challenge.
After that, we moved on to some basic math. Adding and subtracting were up first. I’d yell out an equation, and he’d have to dance out the answer. Like, if I said “Two plus two,” he’d have to do four jumps or something like that. We even tried telling time – I’d be the clock, and he’d have to show the time with his body. That was a tough one, I gotta admit. Greater than and less than were a bit easier. We used our arms to make the symbols while dancing.
We played jokes and riddles for a while, too. I read somewhere that a joke a day keeps the doctor away, haha! I don’t know if that is true, but it kept us both entertained. I was trying to learn some road signs and regulations to teach him in a quiz. Like, when to yield, speed limits, and so on. But, he is too young to learn all of that. I think it’s better to wait a little bit longer.
Oh, and we can’t forget about nouns. That was probably the most creative one. He had to act out the noun while dancing, like a little charades game. It was a total riot. One time he had to be a “tree,” and he just stood there, swaying his arms like branches. It was so simple, but so funny.
Honestly, these dancing quizzes have been a lifesaver. It was funny. I found a way to combine fun and education. Plus, it’s a great way to burn off some energy, for both of us! I even started wondering if I could use this for other stuff, like, maybe I could learn a new language this way? Or maybe memorize some important information for work? The possibilities seem endless. It’s like I stumbled upon a whole new way of learning, all thanks to some silly dancing and a whole lot of laughter.
These days, I tried to use “Words with Friends Cheat” to find high-scoring words and use them in our quizzes. But it was a little bit hard to combine with dancing. I think I will give up on this one. I also found something called “TABE Online” which is used to assess adult basic education skills. It seems interesting but I didn’t try that yet.
Anyways, I just wanted to share this little experiment of mine. It’s been a fun ride, and I think I’m gonna keep exploring this dancing quiz thing. Who knows what we’ll learn next? Maybe we’ll even become professional dancing quiz masters! Okay, maybe that’s a stretch, but a dad can dream, right?
