Okay, so let me tell you about this little project I’ve been messing around with – Hong Kong film posters. It all started when I stumbled upon some old, cool-looking movie posters online.
I started by just browsing. I went down a rabbit hole on Pinterest, looking at boards dedicated to Hong Kong movie posters. These things are awesome, full of action and bright colors. I spent hours just scrolling, saving the ones I liked.
I then moved on to image searching.
- I used some tools to find a bunch of high-quality images of these posters.
- It was a bit of a pain to filter through everything, but I eventually got a decent collection of images.
Next up, I wanted to see what other people were doing with these posters.
I found out about this artist, Chungkong, who makes minimalist versions of movie posters. Super cool stuff. I looked into how I could maybe buy some of his work, but I didn’t end up doing that. I just saved some of his art for inspiration.
Then I thought, “Hey, maybe I could try making my own posters.” I’m no artist, but I figured it would be a fun experiment. I found this online generator that uses AI to create movie posters. You just give it some ideas, and it spits out a bunch of designs. They were okay, but not exactly what I was looking for. This wasn’t it.
So, I decided to go old school. I grabbed some paper and markers and just started sketching. I tried to copy some of the styles from the posters I found. It was messy, and I made a ton of mistakes, but it was also kind of relaxing. I realized it will be hard to do this.
After a while, I had a small pile of my own, hand-drawn Hong Kong-style movie posters. They’re definitely not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of them. I put them up on my wall, and they look pretty good, if I do say so myself.
This whole thing was just a fun little side project, but I learned a lot. I got a better appreciation for the art of movie posters, and I discovered some talented artists along the way. Plus, I got to flex my creative muscles a bit, which is always good. I think I’ll keep messing around with this. Who knows, maybe I’ll even get good at it someday!
This is a fun thing to do and it’s easy to learn. I suggest you all try it and see what you can create. Have fun!
