Okay, so, the Grand Junction Comic Con 2023, what a blast that was! I decided to go on a whim, you know? Never been to one before, so I thought, why not? I started by looking up when it was happening, found out it was on September 16th. Good, good, I marked it on my calendar.
Next, I figured I should probably plan a bit. I mean, I didn’t wanna just show up and be totally lost. So I went through the schedule I found online. It mentioned some cool stuff like a guest speaker, Paolo Bacigalupi, and cosplay contests. Sounded fun!
I also saw that there would be an exhibit hall with over 70 artists and authors. Seventy! That’s a lot of talent in one place. I made a mental note to check that out for sure.
- Guest speaker: Paolo Bacigalupi
- Cosplay contests
- Exhibit hall: over 70 artists and authors
Getting there was easy. The event was at the Grand Junction Convention Center. I just punched the address into my phone’s GPS, 159 Main St, and followed the directions. No problem.
Once I was inside, wow, it was a whole different world. People were dressed up as their favorite characters, some of the costumes were insane, so much detail! I wandered around, taking it all in. I attended a few of those fandom meet-ups, which was pretty neat. Everyone was so passionate, it was infectious!
What I learned about Comic-Con
I realized Comic-Con is not just about comics, you know? It’s this huge celebration of pop culture, creativity, and just having fun. There’s something for everyone. You can learn about science, technology, art, storytelling, a whole bunch of things.
One thing I did notice, no selfie sticks allowed. I saw a security guard ask someone to put theirs away. Good to know for next time, I guess. Overall, I had an amazing time. Met some cool people, saw some incredible art, and just enjoyed the whole vibe. I will definitely be going back next year, maybe I’ll even try cosplaying!
If you’ve never been to a Comic-Con, I highly recommend it. It’s an experience you won’t forget. Just remember to plan a little, wear comfy shoes, and don’t bring a selfie stick!
