So, I’ve been messing around with my old comic book collection lately, and I stumbled upon a bunch of Heavy Metal magazines. I remember buying these back in the day, mostly for the cool artwork, but I never really thought about whether they might be worth something now. So, I decided to do a little digging and see if I could figure out the value of these bad boys.
First thing I did was hit up the internet, you know, like you do. I started Googling stuff like “Heavy Metal comics value” and “how much is my Heavy Metal magazine worth.” I found some websites that let you look up comic book values, which was pretty neat. You could just type in the issue number and it would give you an estimate of the price based on past sales and stuff.
- I started punching in the issue numbers of my Heavy Metal mags. Some of them were just a few bucks, nothing too crazy. But then, I found a couple that were going for like 50 or even 100 bucks! I was pretty surprised, I gotta say.
- I also found out that the first issue of Heavy Metal, #1, is actually pretty valuable. I didn’t have that one, unfortunately, but I saw some listings for it online, and it was going for some serious cash. Like, hundreds of dollars!
- Then I dug a little deeper and found out that Heavy Metal actually shut down in December 2022. Apparently, they were having some money problems and couldn’t pay their artists and stuff. I guess that makes the older issues even more collectible now, since they’re not making any new ones.
I also stumbled upon some online communities where comic book collectors hang out. They had forums and stuff where you could post pictures of your comics and ask people for help figuring out the value. I posted a few of my Heavy Metal mags, and some folks gave me some pretty good estimates.
Turns out, it’s not just about the issue number.
The condition of the comic makes a big difference too. Like, if it’s all beat up and ripped, it’s not gonna be worth as much as one that’s in mint condition. I had a few that were in pretty good shape, but some of them were kinda rough. I guess I should’ve taken better care of them when I was a kid!
Anyway, after all this research, I decided to try and sell a few of my Heavy Metal comics. It wasn’t easy but after a week, someone finally bought one from me. I think it was issue #127, and I sold it for about $45. Not a bad little profit, considering I probably paid like five bucks for it back in the day.
So yeah, that’s my little adventure into the world of Heavy Metal comic book values. It was a fun little project, and I even made a few bucks in the process. Who knew those old magazines could be worth something? If you’ve got any old Heavy Metal comics lying around, you might wanna do some research and see what they’re worth. You might be surprised!
