Well, let me tell you somethin’ about these “cgc comic mystery box” things. I don’t rightly know what all them letters mean, but my grandson, he’s always talkin’ ’bout ’em. Says they’re comic books, you know, like the ones with Superman and Batman, but all fancy and in plastic. He says some of them are worth a whole lot of money, can you believe that? Just paper and pictures, and folks are payin’ good money for ’em.
Now, from what I gather, these “cgc” things, they’re like graded, you know? Like someone looked at ’em real close and gave ’em a number. The higher the number, the better the comic book, I guess. My grandson says a 9.8 is real good. He’s always hopin’ to get one of them in his boxes.
And these “mystery boxes”? Well, that’s just what it sounds like. You pay your money, and you get a box, but you don’t know what’s inside. It’s a gamble, pure and simple. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don’t. My grandson, he got a box once with a book about some walkin’ dead fellas. He was real excited ’bout that one. Said it was worth more than what he paid for the whole box.
- They got these boxes with all sorts of different comics in ’em.
- Some are just from one company, like that Marvel one with Spider-Man, or that DC one with the bats.
- And some got a mix, you never know what you’re gonna get.
Now, I don’t see the sense in it myself. Seems like a waste of money to me. But these young folks, they got their hobbies, I guess. My grandson, he spends hours lookin’ at them books, talkin’ ’bout the artists and the stories. He even got some fancy words for ’em, like “variants” and “signatures.” I just nod along, pretendin’ I know what he’s talkin’ about.
But I tell you what, it does seem like some folks are makin’ a good livin’ sellin’ these boxes. My grandson, he’s always lookin’ at websites, talkin’ ’bout different sellers and what kind of deals they got. There’s a whole lot of ’em out there, seems like. And they all sayin’ they got the best boxes, the best comics. It’s hard to know who to trust, you know?
He told me once about a box that guaranteed a 9.8 book from “The Walking Dead” or “Invincible”. And there are other boxes, where they give you a random CGC graded comic book in each box and they are all supposed to be at 9.8. That is a pretty high number you know. It seems like all the young folks really love these superhero comic books, not just my grandson. He told me about so many different kinds. There’s Spider-Man and Batman and so many more.
And then there’s the signatures. Apparently, if some famous artist signed a comic book, it makes it worth even more. My grandson showed me one once with a squiggly line on it. Said it was worth a hundred dollars! Can you believe that? A hundred dollars for a scribble! Makes no sense to me, but then again, what do I know? I am just an old woman.
So, if you’re thinkin’ about buyin’ one of these “cgc comic mystery boxes,” I’d say be careful. Do your research, like my grandson does. Don’t just jump at the first shiny box you see. And remember, it’s a gamble. You might get a good one, you might get a dud. That’s just the way it is.
But hey, if you got some extra money and you like the thrill of the chase, why not give it a try? Who knows, you might just get lucky and find a treasure in one of them boxes. Just don’t come cryin’ to me if you don’t! I warned ya, it’s just a gamble.
And another thing, don’t go spendin’ your rent money on these things. That’s just foolish. Comics are nice and all, but they ain’t gonna keep a roof over your head. You gotta have your priorities straight, you know? Food on the table, clothes on your back, that’s what matters. Then, if you got a little somethin’ left over, well, maybe you can buy a mystery box or two. But don’t go crazy with it.
Now, I gotta go make some supper. All this talk about comic books and mystery boxes has got me hungry. Maybe I’ll make some fried chicken. That’ll stick to your ribs, that’s for sure. More fillin’ than any old comic book, I tell ya that much.
