Alright, let’s gab about them drama movie posters, you know, the ones that make you wanna sit down and watch a good cry or somethin’. I ain’t no fancy expert, but I know what I like when I see it.
First off, them posters gotta catch your eye. You’re walkin’ by, and somethin’ gotta make you stop and look, right? Like, big faces, maybe some sad lookin’ eyes. Or maybe it’s all dark and mysterious, makin’ you wonder what the heck is goin’ on. That’s what I call “gaining attention”, like them smart folks say.
Then there’s the pictures, or what they call “iconography.” If it’s a love story, maybe you see a couple huggin’ or lookin’ all lovey-dovey. If it’s a war movie, you might see some soldiers or explosions. It’s gotta tell you a little somethin’ about what the movie’s about, see? Gotta make you interested.
And speakin’ of interest, them posters gotta make you wanna know more. Like, if you see a fella standin’ in the rain lookin’ all lost, you might think, “Well, what happened to him?” That’s what they mean by “gaining the audience’s interest.” It’s all about gettin’ you hooked, reel you in like a fish.
Now, nobody wants to look at somethin’ ugly, right? So, the poster’s gotta be appealin’. Pretty colors, nice lookin’ folks, that kind of stuff. It’s gotta have “style”, you know? Somethin’ that makes it stand out from all the other posters. Some are all old-timey lookin’, some are all modern and fancy. It just depends, I guess.
- Colors: Gotta be eye-catchin’, not too dull.
- Faces: Big, emotional faces work real well.
- Words: Not too many, but enough to get the point across.
Them posters, they gotta stick with ya. You see a good one, and you remember it, even years later. That’s what I call “lasting appeal.” It’s gotta be somethin’ special, somethin’ that you just can’t forget. Like that one movie with the sad dog, I still remember that poster, made me cry just lookin’ at it.
And of course, you gotta know what movie it is! So, the poster’s gotta be “recognizable.” Big title, maybe the actors’ names, stuff like that. You don’t want people thinkin’ it’s a comedy when it’s a sad drama, that wouldn’t do at all. They sometimes put a little catchphrase on there too, a “movie tagline” they call it. Somethin’ catchy that tells you a bit about the story. Like, “Love conquers all” or “Their world will be changed forever”. You know, somethin’ like that.
I’ve seen all sorts of sizes too. Some are small, some are big as a door! They got these names for ‘em, like “One Sheet” and “Three Sheet.” Don’t ask me why, I just know they’re different sizes. The big ones, they really grab your attention, that’s for sure.
Anyways, that’s just my two cents on them drama movie posters. They gotta be eye-catchin’, tell a story, and make you wanna see the movie. It’s a whole lot more than just a pretty picture, that’s for sure. It’s about makin’ you feel somethin’, makin’ you wanna know more, and makin’ you remember that movie long after you’ve seen it.
And you know, some of them posters, they’re just plain works of art. You could hang ‘em up on your wall, they’re that pretty. Makes you appreciate all the hard work that goes into makin’ ‘em. From the design, to the printin’, it’s a whole process. And it all starts with that one idea, that one image that’s gonna capture the heart of the movie.
So next time you see a movie poster, take a good look at it. Think about what it’s tryin’ to tell ya. And see if it does its job, if it makes you wanna go see that movie. ‘Cause that’s what it’s all about, ain’t it? Gettin’ folks in them theater seats.
