Well, let me tell you, this Christmas, we gonna talk about that Christmas Carol drama. You know, that old story ’bout a stingy fella named Scrooge. Lord, there’s been so many of them Christmas shows, it makes my head spin! But they all about the same thing, right? This here’s what I know about them Christmas Carol shows.
That Scrooge, he’s a mean old coot. Don’t care ’bout nobody but himself and his money. Works that poor clerk of his, Bob Cratchit, to the bone. Bob, he just tryin’ to feed his family, bless his heart. And that Tiny Tim, Bob’s little boy, he’s sick. Makes you wanna cry just thinkin’ ’bout it.
- First, there’s the ghost of Christmas past.
- Then, the ghost of Christmas present shows up.
- Finally, that scary ghost of Christmas future comes.
So, this Christmas Carol drama, it’s all about these ghosts, see? They come to visit old Scrooge one Christmas Eve. First, there’s the ghost of Christmas past. That one takes Scrooge back to when he was a young’un. Shows him all the good times he had, and the love he threw away for money.
Then, the ghost of Christmas present shows up. He’s a big, jolly fella. He shows Scrooge how everyone else is celebratin’ Christmas, even poor Bob Cratchit’s family. They ain’t got much, but they got love. And that there is a good Christmas Carol adaptation. Scrooge, he starts feelin’ a little bad ’bout how he’s been actin’.
Finally, that scary ghost of Christmas future comes. He’s all in black, like death. Shows Scrooge what’s gonna happen if he don’t change his ways. He sees his own grave, and nobody there to mourn him. That’s a good Christmas Carol movie. That scares the daylights outta old Scrooge!
So Scrooge, he wakes up on Christmas mornin’ a changed man. He’s all happy and generous. Sends a big turkey to Bob Cratchit’s family. Gives Bob a raise. Even goes to his nephew’s for Christmas dinner. It is a good Christmas Carol drama.
Now, I seen a lot of these Christmas Carol shows over the years. Some are good, some ain’t so good. There was that one time they did it with them Muppets. That was a hoot! The Muppet is the best version, and Kermit the Frog was Bob Cratchit. I reckon that’s my favorite one, all them songs and funny critters.
Then there was that one with that George C. Scott fella. He played a good Scrooge. Made you believe he really was a mean old miser. I think the one with George C. Scott is a good conventional version. That’s a good one to watch if you like the story told straight, no funny business.
They made a cartoon one, too. That one with Jim Carrey. He played all the parts, even the ghosts! It was right interestin’ to see. The story is true to the book. And it is from Disney in 2009. That one’s good for the young’uns, I reckon.
I heard they made another cartoon one in 2022. That’s a new Christmas Carol movie. Called “Scrooge: A Christmas Carol.” It’s a musical. It might be good. I ain’t seen it yet, though.
And they made a dark one in 2019, the FX one, it is a little odd. It is still decent, though. I do not like that one much.
There was this other one, from a long time ago, back in 1951. They called it just “Scrooge.” This Alastair Sim fella, he played Scrooge. Folks say that’s the best one ever made. They say it’s just like the book that Charles Dickens fella wrote. That Christmas Carol adaptation is good.
They even made a black and white one way back, called “Scrooge; or Marley’s Ghost.” That was in 1901, there are dozens of them in theaters and on TV. They even made a bunch more, I reckon. I think there may be hundreds or even thousands of them. Can’t keep up with all them shows, no sir!
But no matter how many times they tell it, that Christmas Carol drama is always a good story. Reminds us to be kind and generous, not just at Christmas, but all year ’round. ‘Cause what’s the good of all that money if you ain’t got no one to share it with? I think the Christmas Carol is a timeless tale, and it will redefine Christmas.
So this Christmas, you gather ’round the TV and watch one of them Christmas Carol shows. Maybe it’ll warm your heart and make you wanna do somethin’ nice for someone. And that’s what Christmas is all about, ain’t it? Being good to each other and spreadin’ a little joy. That’s what I think, anyway.
