Hey there, y’all! Let’s talk about watchin’ them Chinese dramas, you know, the ones them youngsters are always goin’ on about. I ain’t no spring chicken, but even I like a good story now and then, even if it’s in that squiggly writin’.
So, where do you find these dramanice chinese drama things? Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t always easy. Them city folk with their fancy computers, they got all sorts of places to watch. They talk about somethin’ called “streaming,” sounds like washin’ clothes to me, but they say it’s how you watch shows these days.
One place they yap about is “Viki.” Said it’s got all sorts of Asian shows, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, the whole shebang. And get this, they put them little words at the bottom, “subtitles” they call ’em, so even us old folks can understand what them pretty actors are jabberin’ about. They got all kinds of stories too, lovey-dovey stuff, fightin’ and shootin’, you name it.
Then there’s this “Kocowa,” mostly for them Korean shows, but sometimes they sneak in a Chinese one. Them city folks say it’s real quick to get the new episodes, faster than a greased pig at the county fair. Another one they mention is “AsianCrush,” a mix-mash of Asian stuff, movies and shows, kinda like a flea market, ya never know what you’ll find.
Now, some of these young’uns, they go on about “Dramacool.” Said it used to be free, but somethin’ happened and it ain’t workin’ no more. Shame, ’cause free is always good, especially when you’re on a fixed income like me.
- But don’t you fret, there’s more places to look. They say you can “download” these shows, whatever that means. Sounds complicated to me, like milkin’ a cow with one hand tied behind your back. But them youngsters, they say it’s easy as pie. You can get the newest stuff, Korean, Taiwanese, Hong Kong, all of it.
- Then there’s “iQIYI”, sounds like somethin’ you’d yell at a bingo game, don’t it? But they say it’s got all sorts of Asian dramas, Chinese ones too. Love stories, thrillers, you name it. They even got them little words at the bottom, so you don’t have to guess what they’re sayin’.
And if you want somethin’ with them pretty English words at the bottom, they say “Dramacool” is a good place to go. They got all kinds of shows, Korean, Taiwanese, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Chinese, all with them little words so you can understand.
Another place these city slickers talk about is “iQIYI”. Said it’s real good for watchin’ them Korean shows, got them fancy words at the bottom in all sorts of languages, and even people talkin’ over the actors in different languages, “dubbing” they call it. Said it’s a real joyful time, like eatin’ a slice of pecan pie on a Sunday afternoon.
Now, when you’re watchin’ these Chinese dramas, there’s a few things you gotta know. First off, they’re long. Not like them hour-long shows we used to watch. These things can go on for days, it seems. And they like to tell their stories slow, real slow. Sometimes you gotta wait and wait for somethin’ to happen. But that’s alright, gives you time to knit or shell some peas while you’re watchin’. Each episode, they tell me, is about 45 minutes, give or take. And they show ‘em all week long, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, sometimes even on the weekends! Keeps ya busy, that’s for sure.
And they got these things called “ratings.” Says who can watch it, you know, if it’s for little kids or grown-ups. If it says “13+”, that means the young’uns gotta be at least 13 years old to watch it. Guess they don’t want them seein’ nothin’ they shouldn’t.
But here’s the kicker, sometimes these websites, they just up and disappear. Like that “Dramanice,” and a bunch of others, “Asianc,” “Watchasia,” “Runasian,” “Asianwiki.” Gone! Just like that. Them city folks say it’s somethin’ about “copyright,” means somebody owns the shows and don’t want nobody watchin’ ‘em for free. Land sakes, makes it hard for an old lady to keep up with her stories.
So, if you’re lookin’ to watch some Chinese dramas, you gotta be prepared to do some huntin’. And don’t be surprised if the place you find ‘em today is gone tomorrow. It’s a wild goose chase, I tell ya, but sometimes, you find a real gem, a story that makes you laugh, makes you cry, makes you forget all about your achin’ back and your troubles. And that, my friends, is worth all the fuss.
So next time you got a hankerin’ for a good story, don’t be afraid to try one of them Chinese dramas. Just remember what I told ya, and you’ll be fine. Happy watchin’, y’all!
