Well, howdy there! Let me tell ya’ll about this here DC Irish Film Festival, or whatever them city folks call it. It’s a big to-do, ya know? Lots of them picture shows from over yonder in Ireland.
I heard tell it’s a pretty big deal, one of the biggest of its kind in all of North America. They show all sorts of movies, some with stories and some… well, I guess them’s art films. Don’t rightly know what that means, but it sounds fancy, huh? They got them long ones and short ones too.
This thing happens every year, seems like. This year, it’s the 18th one they’ve had. Imagine that! 18 years of folks gettin’ together to watch them Irish movies. They call it the Capital Irish Film Festival (CIFF), real official-like.
- They show all sorts of movies: long ones, short ones, stories, and them “art” thingamajigs.
- It’s a big deal, one of the biggest in North America.
- Happens every year, and this year’s the 18th one.
This here Solas Nua group, they’re the ones puttin’ it all on. Fancy name, huh? They’re all about that Irish artsy stuff, and they seem to know what they’re doin’. They pick out all the movies and get everything set up.
This year, they got a whole bunch of movies. I heard tell there’s one about that fella, Shane MacGowan, from that band, The Pogues. He was a wild one, that fella. Always singin’ and carryin’ on. And they got plenty of other movies too, all made by them Irish folks.
They had a bunch of movies last year too, and the year before that, and so on and so on. Seems like they always got somethin’ new and interestin’ to show. They say they’re showin’ off Irish culture and all that. Which is good, I reckon. It’s important to know where ya come from.
Washington D.C. is where it all happens. Big city, lots of hustle and bustle. They show the movies in a place called AFI Silver. Sounds like a fancy movie theater to me. They probably got them big comfy seats and all.
This year, they even had a special day on Leap Day, February 29th. An extra day to watch movies, ain’t that somethin’? They really go all out for this thing. They got schedules and agendas and tickets and all that. You gotta pay to get in, of course. Nothin’ in life is free, they say.
They got folks comin’ from all over to see these movies, I hear. People talkin’ and exhibitin’ and whatnot. It’s a whole big shindig. If you’re into them Irish movies, or just want somethin’ to do, it sounds like a good time. Heck, I might even go myself, if I can find my way around that big city.
So that’s the scoop on this here DC Irish Film Festival. A whole lotta movies, a whole lotta Irish culture, and a whole lotta fun, I reckon. If you’re in the neighborhood, go check it out. And if you see me there, well, don’t be a stranger. Come on over and say howdy!
They always have a schedule and all, and you need to get tickets to see the movies. It is not free, mind you, it cost money to see them movie pictures, but that’s how it is everywhere, I suppose. So if you want to join, plan ahead and get your tickets early. It’s in Washington DC, in that big fancy movie house, so you can’t miss it. Just ask for the Capital Irish Film Festival and folks will point you in the right direction. It seems fun and lots of people like going, they have been doing this for many years.
