Well, howdy there! Let me tell ya’ll about this here… thing, whatchamacallit… Denver Jewish Film Festival. Sounds fancy, don’t it? I ain’t never been to no film festival, but my niece, she told me a bit about it. Said it’s a big to-do with movies and all.
So, this Denver Jewish Film Festival, they show all sorts of movies. They call ’em “Jewish cinema.” I reckon that means movies about Jewish folks and their stories. My niece, she said they got movies from all over, even from them far-off countries. Fourteen countries, she said! Can ya believe that? That’s a whole lotta places. I ain’t even been outta this here state, let alone outta the country.
- They got this movie, “Running on Sand” or somethin’ like that. It’s the openin’ night movie, a big deal, ya know? Sounds like a desert movie to me. Sand and runnin’, prob’ly hot as blazes.
- And they showin’ these movies in these places called “theaters.” One’s called the Elaine Wolf Theater, and the other one’s the Pluss Theater. Sounds highfalutin to me. Prob’ly got them big comfy chairs and popcorn bigger than your head.
Now, they been doin’ this film festival for a long time, seems like. This year’s the 28th annual one, they say. That’s a lot of years of showin’ movies. They must be doin’ somethin’ right, I guess. Folks seem to like it, anyhow. My niece says they got over 30 films this time. Thirty! That’s more movies than I seen in my whole life, I betcha.
They got tickets and passes and all that stuff. You can get a pass to see all the movies, if you’re a real movie buff. Me? I’d prob’ly fall asleep in the middle of the first one. But some folks, they love them movies. They even got some virtual screenings this year, whatever that means. Watchin’ movies on the computer, maybe? Kids these days with their gadgets…
This Jewish Film Festival in Denver, it starts on March 15th. That’s right around the corner, ain’t it? And they got movies all day long. Startin’ at ten in the mornin’! Who goes to a movie at ten in the mornin’? Prob’ly retired folks, I guess. Got nothin’ better to do. Well, more power to ’em, I say. Enjoy them movies while ya can.
This festival, it ain’t just about watchin’ movies, though. It’s about learnin’ too, I reckon. Learnin’ about other folks and their lives. Jewish folks, in this case. We all got stories to tell, ain’t that the truth? And movies, they a good way to tell them stories. Makes ya think and feel things, even if ya don’t understand it all.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to do in Denver come March, and ya like movies, maybe this DJFF is for you. Go on down there and see what it’s all about. Maybe you’ll see my niece there. She’ll be the one eatin’ all the popcorn, I betcha. And if ya see a movie called “Running on Sand,” tell me if it’s any good. I’m curious about that desert movie. But for now, I’m gonna stick to my TV and my stories. They might not be fancy, but they’re mine.
JCC Denver helps put on this here festival, they call it JCC Film Festival sometimes too. And they got a number you can call, if you’re fancy enough to do that sort of thing. 303.316.6360. Just don’t tell ’em I told ya to call, ’cause I ain’t got time for all that yakkin’. Anyways, sounds like a big to-do, this Denver Jewish Film Festival, a real big to-do.
