Today, I stumbled upon an old movie poster for “First Blood,” you know, that classic Rambo flick with Stallone. It got me thinking, why not try to find an original, maybe even a signed one? So, I started digging around the internet.
I checked out a site called Hollywood Memorabilia. They had some pretty cool stuff, including “First Blood” signed photos and props. It was tempting, but I wanted to see what else was out there.
Then, I found a listing on a site called Ecliptic Ethereal, shipping from Rancho Cucamonga, CA. It was listed on October 3rd, so relatively recent. It wasn’t clear if it was signed or not, but it was an original “First Blood” movie poster.
Another site I came across mentioned a framed “First Blood Part I” movie poster signed by Sylvester Stallone himself, authenticated by Beckett. Now that sounded awesome! A real piece of action movie history right there.
Research
I did a bit more digging into the movie itself. Apparently, “First Blood” came out in the US on October 22, 1982. Reviews were mixed initially, but it did really well at the box office, raking in over 125 million and becoming one of the top-grossing films that year.
- Release Date: October 22, 1982
- Initial Reviews: Mixed
- Box Office Success: $125.2 million gross
- Ranking: 13th highest-grossing film domestically, 7th worldwide
I also learned that the first-ever movie poster was for a Lumiere Brothers film shown in Paris back in 1895. Pretty cool, right?
I found out that there’s a more recent Rambo movie called “Rambo: Last Blood” from 2019. It’s directed by Adrian Grunberg, and Stallone co-wrote the screenplay. I mean the movie is based on the John Rambo character created by author David Morrell in his novel “First Blood.”
People often see Rambo as one of the greatest action heroes ever. But “First Blood” is more than just an action film. It’s a deep look at the character and how war affects people. Sure, it’s violent, but there’s something about that violence that’s typical of action movies. And you know what, it’s enjoyable to watch.
So, that was my little adventure today, diving into the world of “First Blood” and its memorabilia. It is really cool to see how a simple movie poster can lead you down a rabbit hole of movie history and the impact of a character like Rambo. The search for that perfect poster continues, but it’s been a fun ride so far!
