Well, let me tell ya ’bout them creative films, the kind that make you scratch your head and say, “What in the tarnation did I just watch?” Not them shoot-em-up bang-bang movies, no sir. These are different, real different.
Some of ’em, they call ’em “artsy.” I saw one once, called “Dogville,” about this gal runnin’ from the mob. Ended up in this itty-bitty town in Colorado, workin’ her fingers to the bone just to stay alive. Long movie, it was. Talk, talk, talk. But it stuck with me, you know? Made me think ’bout folks and how they treat each other.
- Dogville – Long, but makes ya think.
- Citizen Kane – Old one, but folks say it’s a big deal.
- Amelie – Never seen it, but heard it’s pretty and different.
Then there’s this fella, Citizen Kane. Heard folks talkin’ about it for ages. Said it was somethin’ special. Finally saw it on the TV one night. Black and white, you know? About this rich fella and his newspaper. Kinda hard to follow at times, all them flashbacks and fancy talk, but you could tell it was well-made. Real creative, the way they told the story.
And then there’s this “Amelie” movie. Never seen it myself, but my granddaughter, she loves it. Says it’s beautiful and whimsical. Somethin’ about a girl in Paris, doin’ good deeds and makin’ folks happy. Sounds like a nice change from all the shootin’ and hollerin’ on TV these days.
Another one they talk about is “Mulholland Drive.” Now, that one’s a real head-scratcher. My nephew, he’s into all them weird movies, tried to explain it to me once. Said it was about dreams and Hollywood and a car crash. I watched a bit of it, but it was too confusing for an old gal like me. But you gotta give ’em credit, them moviemakers. They sure got creative imaginations.
Oh, and that “Scott Pilgrim” movie. My grandson, he watches that one all the time. Somethin’ about a fella fightin’ his girlfriend’s seven evil exes? Sounds crazy, right? But he says it’s funny and the fight scenes are somethin’ else. Guess that’s what they call creative these days. Mashin’ up all sorts of things.
Creative films, they ain’t always easy to watch. Sometimes they’re slow, sometimes they’re confusing, sometimes they just plain make no sense. But they make you think. They make you feel. They show you the world in a different way. And that’s worth somethin’, ain’t it?
I heard tell of a movie called “Avatar”, folks sayin’ it’s the best 3D movie ever made. Now, I ain’t seen it myself, 3D gives me a headache somethin’ fierce, but they say it’s like you’re really there, on another planet with them blue people. Must’ve taken a whole heap of creativity to make somethin’ like that. Imaginin’ a whole new world, and then makin’ it real on the screen.
And then there’s this talk about computers makin’ movies now. Somethin’ called “AI”, they say it can read scripts and tell you if a movie’s gonna be good or not. Well, I don’t know about that. Seems to me, makin’ a good movie takes more than just numbers and figures. It takes heart, it takes soul, and it takes a whole lot of creativity. The kind you can’t program into no machine.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ different, somethin’ to get your brain workin’, give them creative films a try. You might not like ’em all, but you might just find one that knocks your socks off. And even if you don’t, well, at least you can say you tried somethin’ new.
Creative films, they’re like a puzzle. You gotta put the pieces together yourself. And that’s half the fun, ain’t it?
