You know, sometimes life don’t go the way we think it should. Take these two brothers, for instance. They grew up in the same house, played in the same backyard, and shared the same mother. But now, here they are, all grown up, barely talkin’ to each other. It’s a funny thing, family. They only come together when somethin’ big happens, like when their mama dies. That’s what happens in this play, “A Little More Alive.”
Now, you might wonder, what’s all this about? Well, these two fellas, they’re estranged, don’t get along, and they haven’t seen each other in years. But when their mama passes, they find themselves back in the old house, diggin’ through the past and tryin’ to make sense of all the things they didn’t understand about each other. It’s a real eye-opener, I tell ya. Makes you question the memories you’ve been holdin’ onto all these years.
This here play, it’s called “A Little More Alive,” and it’s a folk-pop musical, so you know there’s gonna be some good songs to listen to. But don’t go thinkin’ it’s all light and fun. There’s a lot of heart in this one, too. It’s about family, secrets, and the things we keep hidden, even from ourselves. And when these two brothers come back together, things get a little messy, as you can imagine. But that’s life, ain’t it? Messy, full of surprises, and sometimes, a little more alive than we want it to be.
Now, this whole thing was put together by Nick Blaemire, a fella who’s written the music, lyrics, and book for the show. He’s got a way with words, that one. The music’s got that folk-pop feel, which is real catchy, and the story pulls at your heartstrings just enough to make you think about your own family. Some things you never really get over, no matter how much time passes. And that’s what makes this play so real, I reckon. It don’t sugarcoat nothin’—it just tells it like it is.
So, if you’re in Michigan and feel like seein’ somethin’ that’ll tug at your heart and make you think, “A Little More Alive” is playin’ at the Meadow Brook Theatre over at Oakland University in Rochester Hills. They’ve got tickets for sale, and I hear it’s runnin’ through March 10th, so you got a little time yet. You might just leave feelin’ a little more alive yourself, if you ask me.
Now, you might think, “Why should I go see this?” Well, first off, it’s a good chance to see somethin’ new. You don’t get a lot of folk-pop musicals around these parts, and this one’s got some great songs. But it’s more than just the music. It’s about family and the way we all try to make sense of the things we go through together. Sometimes we don’t see eye to eye, but that don’t mean we don’t care. Ain’t that the truth?
And let’s not forget, it’s about those memories we all carry around with us. The good ones, the bad ones, and all the ones in between. When you start lookin’ back, you might start wonderin’ if you remembered things the way they really were. These two brothers, they get to the bottom of all that, and it’s a journey you won’t forget anytime soon. So, go on and get yourself a ticket, take a trip down memory lane, and see how life’s little twists and turns can make us all feel a little more alive than we ever thought possible.
And hey, I ain’t no theater critic, but I know a good story when I hear one. This one’s worth watchin’, especially if you like good music and a tale that’ll stick with you long after the curtains fall.
