Well, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout that American Legion music schedule. Sounds like a right hootenanny! They got music goin’ on all the time, I reckon. Just like when my old man used to play the banjo on the porch, ‘cept probably louder.
They got somethin’ called “Live Music Every Month”. Every month! Can you believe it? Back in my day, we were lucky to have a barn dance once a year. These young’uns got it good, I tell ya.
I seen a list, looked like a whole mess of names I ain’t never heard of.
- Brad somethin’.
- AVID Dance somethin’.
- Songwriter Showcase.
- And a Leslie somethin’.
- Blue Canyon somethin’.
Don’t know who they are, but they sound fancy. Reckon they play that rock and roll music the kids are all crazy about. Me, I like a good fiddle tune myself.
They got all these dates all lined up. Let’s see, they got something called…December 27, 2024. Says “Season’s Greetings!” right there. Then it says “No band or fish fry tonight, Christmas holiday week.” Well, ain’t that a shame. Christmas is when you need music the most!
Then I seen somethin’ for January 24, 2025. Says “Jenny James”. Now that’s a name I recognize. I think she’s that gal who sings down at the church social. She’s got a voice like an angel, that one.
Then it gets all jumbled up. This here says November 28th, 2024, Darrell somethin’. Then there’s August 9th, and it just says “TBD”. What in tarnation is “TBD”? Maybe that’s some newfangled band. Then May 26th is Shane somethin’. I don’t know, I can’t keep track of all these names. Too many young folks runnin’ around these days.
They got a whole calendar of this stuff. Says it’s at somethin’ called “Club 201”. Sounds like one of them fancy city places. We had a club once, back in my day. Called it the “Hen House” ’cause all the ladies would gather there and gossip.
Another one says somethin’ about “Live Music at the Legion”, and then some numbers…119, I reckon. Says you can redeem somethin’ starting June 16. Redeem what, I wonder? Maybe they’re givin’ away free pie. I sure do love me some pie.
Then this other one here…it says “Live Music every Friday and Saturday Night” at the Hopkins American Legion. Every Friday and Saturday! That’s a lot of music. My old ears couldn’t take it. They got a schedule, food, drinks. Says it’s for a “great cause”. Well, that’s good, I reckon. Always good to help folks out.
Seems like this American Legion music schedule is a big deal. Lots of folks go, I guess. They probably got all kinds of music, somethin’ for everyone. Even us old folks who like a good waltz now and then.
Music schedule, well, I’ll be. It looks like a whole mess of fun. They have somethin’ called “Live Music” every Friday and Saturday. I reckon that’s a good time. Maybe I’ll ask my grandson to take me sometime. He’s got one of them newfangled cars that can probably get us there in a jiffy. Might even wear my Sunday best.
I remember when we used to have dances in the barn. The whole town would show up. We’d string up some lights, and someone would bring a fiddle or a banjo. We’d dance until the sun came up. Those were the days.
Now they got all these fancy bands and such. Probably cost a pretty penny to get in, too. Back then, we just brought a pie or a cake to share. Everyone pitched in.
This American Legion music thing sounds like a real shindig. Maybe they got some of that old-time music, too. I’d love to hear a good polka again. Haven’t heard one of those in ages.
Well, I reckon that’s all I know about this here American Legion music schedule. If you’re lookin’ for a good time, sounds like that’s the place to be. Just don’t stay out too late, you hear? And don’t forget your dancin’ shoes!
I seen another flier somewhere that said something about “open mic night”. Now what in the world is that? Do they just let anyone get up there and sing? Lord have mercy, I hope not. Some folks just ain’t meant to sing, you know what I mean? Bless their hearts. But, if you like music, that American Legion place is probably for you.
