Okay, guys, gather around! Today I want to share my experience at the Buzzards Bay Music Festival 2024. It’s a yearly thing, and I finally decided to go check it out. Let me tell you, it was quite the musical journey!
First off, I found out that this festival happens every July in Marion, MA, at the Fireman Performing Arts Center in Tabor Academy. It’s a five-day event, running from Wednesday, July 10th, to Sunday, July 14th this year. I started looking into it a few weeks ago and saw that they get some pretty impressive musicians from all over, so I figured, why not?
I started by checking out their program. They had all sorts of performances lined up – full orchestra, jazz, swing, piano duets, even a harp performance. I marked my calendar for the whole week because I didn’t want to miss anything. When July 10th rolled around, I made my way to Marion, all excited.
Day 1
- Wednesday, July 10th: The festival kicked off with an orchestra performance. The event was set to start at 7:30 PM. I found out they were doing Mozart and Schumann’s First Symphonies – two pieces I had always wanted to hear live. I got there early to get a good seat. The atmosphere was electric, and when the orchestra started playing, it was magical. The director, Charles Stegeman, really knew how to bring the music to life.
The Following Days
Over the next few days, I went to each performance. They had a jazz night, which was super lively and fun. Then there was a swing night, which got everyone tapping their feet. I even watched a piano duet, which was surprisingly intense. The harp performance was something else – so elegant and soothing. It was amazing to see so many different styles of music in one place.
One thing I learned was that they had over 150 works performed throughout the festival, all in different styles and ensembles. And get this – they had four outstanding soloists this year. Each one brought something unique to the festival. It was cool to see such talent up close.
Wrapping Up
By the time Sunday, July 14th came around, I was pretty much on a musical high. The final performance was another orchestra, and it was just as good as the first. I left the Fireman Performing Arts Center feeling completely fulfilled. It was such a great experience to be surrounded by so much incredible music and talented people.
So, if you ever get the chance to go to the Buzzards Bay Music Festival, do it! It’s a fantastic way to experience a bunch of different types of music and see some really talented musicians. I’m already looking forward to next year’s festival!
