Well, howdy there, folks! Let me tell ya somethin’ about this here… whatchamacallit… Albuquerque chamber music. Yeah, that’s it. Fancy name for some fiddlin’ and strummin’, I reckon.
Now, I ain’t no city slicker, but I do know a thing or two about music. Back in my day, we had our own kind of music, you know? Foot-stompin’, hand-clappin’ stuff. But this here chamber music, it’s a bit different, but it’s music all the same.
I hear tell these folks in Albuquerque, they been playin’ this music for a long, long time. Eighty-two years, they say! That’s a heap of music, ain’t it? They call it Chamber Music Albuquerque, sounds mighty important.
They got all sorts of shows, they do. Not just fiddles and guitars, mind you. They got them fancy instruments, ones I can’t even pronounce. But they make some pretty sounds, I gotta say. They play all kinds of music too, not just the old-timey stuff. They got new music, they call it “independent” and “distinctive”. Sounds like somethin’ you’d find at the county fair, I tell ya!
- They got concerts, lots of ’em. You can buy a ticket for the whole shebang, six concerts they say. That’s a lot of sittin’ and listenin’, but if you like that kind of thing, it’s a good deal, I guess.
- They play all over town, too. Not just in them fancy concert halls. They play in small places, cozy places, they call ’em “unconventional” and “intimate.” Sounds like they playin’ in somebody’s livin’ room, if you ask me.
And they ain’t the only ones playin’ music in Albuquerque, no sirree. This town’s got music everywhere you go. Festivals, shows, all kinds of things. They even got ballet, dancin’ and twirlin’ on a stage. One time, they even did a Christmas show, but set it way back in the old days, when New Mexico was just a territory. Now, that was somethin’ to see!
So, if you find yourself in Albuquerque, and you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to do, you might want to check out this here chamber music. It ain’t my cup of tea, usually, I prefer a good old-fashioned hoedown myself. But these folks, they know what they’re doin’, and they put on a good show.
They say it’s “serene” music. I guess that means it’s peaceful and calm. Not like that loud rock and roll the youngsters listen to these days. This is music you can sit and relax to, music that makes you think, maybe even makes you a little sleepy. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, mind you. A good nap is always welcome, especially after a long day of workin’ in the garden or tendin’ to the chickens.
They even got these fellas they call “composers.” Now, these ain’t just musicians, they write the music, see? They come up with all them fancy notes and rhythms, and then the musicians play it. It’s a whole process, a real art, they say. Me, I just hum a tune when I’m feelin’ happy, but these folks, they take it to a whole ‘nother level.
So yeah, Albuquerque chamber music. It’s somethin’ different, somethin’ special. It ain’t for everyone, but if you got a hankerin’ for some culture, some fancy tunes, and maybe a little nap, then it might just be the thing for you. And who knows, maybe you’ll even learn a thing or two about them fancy instruments and all that “independent” music. Just don’t expect no foot-stompin’ and hand-clappin’, that ain’t their style. This is more like sittin’ on the porch swing, sippin’ lemonade, and listenin’ to the crickets kinda music… but with more violins.
