Well, hello there, young folks! Today, I’m gonna yak about somethin’ called “booktok quizzes.” Don’t rightly know what that “tok” part means, but sounds like them youngsters are at it again with their fancy gadgets and whatnot.
Anyways, seems like these booktok quizzes are all the rage now. They ask ya all sorts of questions, like “Who’s your fictional man?” Now, ain’t that a hoot? Back in my day, your man was the fella workin’ the farm next door, not some figment of someone’s imagination! But I guess times change, eh?
So, they got these quizzes where they show ya pictures of books and ask if you’ve read ’em. They call ’em “Booktok books,” probably got fancy covers and all. I tell ya, I ain’t read nothin’ but the Good Book and the Farmer’s Almanac, but these young’uns seem to like these stories. They even got quizzes to see if you know the books just by lookin’ at the cover, no title or nothin’! Can you believe that? My eyesight ain’t what it used to be, so I’d fail that one for sure!
- One quiz I saw was about “fictional men.” Like, who’d fall for ya and such. Sounds like a waste of time if ya ask me. But hey, if it makes them happy…
- Then there’s these quizzes testin’ your knowledge of these “Booktok books.” Like, “Can you name this popular book?” I reckon I couldn’t name one! But these kids, they know ’em all, apparently.
- And another one, they show ya a bunch of book covers and you gotta say if you read ’em. Land sakes, how many books are they readin’ these days? When I was young, we barely had time to read, always workin’ from sunup to sundown.
Seems like there’s a quiz for everything these days. One quiz asks, “What is Cassian– the general of the Night Court and precious Illyrian baby– to you? How do you feel about one another.” Now, that sounds like a whole lotta mumbo jumbo to me. Night Court? Illyrian baby? What in the tarnation are they talkin’ about? Guess it’s from one of them fantasy books. Kids these days, always with their heads in the clouds.
Then there’s quizzes about “booktok type retellings.” Retellings of what? I ain’t got a clue. They ask ya “Which one of these insane and thankfully made up booktok type retellings are you?” Insane, huh? Well, I reckon some of them stories do sound a bit crazy. But as long as they ain’t hurtin’ nobody, I guess it’s alright.
Honestly, I don’t get the fuss over these booktok quizzes. But it seems like it’s a way for these youngsters to connect with each other, to share their love of these stories, and maybe even to find out a little somethin’ about themselves. Who am I to judge? As long as they’re readin’ somethin’, that’s better than nothin’, I always say. Even if it’s about some “precious Illyrian baby” or a “fictional man.” It’s a different world now, that’s for sure.
So, if you’re one of them young folks who likes these booktok quizzes, go ahead and have your fun. Take ’em all, find out who your fictional man is, test your knowledge, and see which crazy retelling you are. Just don’t forget to come up for air every now and then and maybe read a good ol’ fashioned book, you know, one without all the fancy talk and whatnot. And for goodness sake, don’t forget to do your chores! Books ain’t gonna put food on the table, that’s for sure!
Anyways, that’s all I got to say about these booktok quizzes. If you ask me, it’s a whole lotta fuss over nothin’, but hey, what do I know? I’m just an old woman who prefers a good story about real folks, not these fantastical fellas and imaginary worlds. But to each their own, I reckon.
And if you youngsters have any real work that needs doing, you know where to find me. I’m always happy to lend a hand, as long as it doesn’t involve any of them “booktok” thingamajigs.
