Well, howdy there, y’all! Let me tell ya somethin’ about this here Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame. It’s a big deal, ya know? Like, real big.
I heard tell they got all sorts of folks in there. Athletes, they call ’em. Folks who can run fast, jump high, and throw things real far. Makes ya wonder what they feed them young’uns these days.
They just had themselves a shindig, I reckon, back in 2024. Added some new names to the list, they did. Henry Cejudo, that fella who wrestles, and Rick Swan, whoever he is. Must be important, though, bein’ in that there Hall of Fame and all.
Seems like they do this every year, ’round October time. One year it was the 22nd, another year the 24th. Can’t keep track of it all myself, too much goin’ on.
They got all sorts in there, I tell ya. Terry Miller, played all sorts of sports at Mitchell High School. A whole swim team from Palmer High School back in 1980, bunch of girls swimmin’ like fish, I guess. And that hockey team from Colorado College, 1995-1996. Sounds like a rough sport, that hockey. Pucks flyin’ everywhere, folks gettin’ knocked around.
- Gary Barnett
- Ann Finke
- Judy somethin’-or-other, couldn’t quite catch the name
All them folks, they done somethin’ special, I guess. Win a bunch of games, maybe. Make the town proud, that’s for sure.
They even had a big party downtown, a “Hall of Fame festival” they called it. Celebrate them Olympic and Paralympic athletes, they said. Them Olympics, that’s where folks from all over the world come and run around, right? And the Paralympics, that’s for folks who, well, they ain’t quite as able-bodied as the others, but they still got that fire in ’em.
I heard tell this Hall of Fame thing started back in 2012 by some doctor fella named Robert M. Goldman. He wanted to honor them athletes, he did. Said they was exceptional and dedicated and all that. Sounds like a good fella, that doctor.
Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame, it ain’t just about the winnin’, ya know? It’s about the hard work, the dedication, the stickin’ to it even when things get tough. That’s what I tell my grandkids, anyway. “You wanna be somebody, you gotta work for it,” I say. “Ain’t nothin’ handed to ya on a silver platter in this life.”
So, next time you’re in Colorado Springs, you oughta go check out that Hall of Fame. See them pictures, read them stories. Might just inspire ya, ya never know. And if you see me there, well, don’t be shy. Come on over and say howdy. I’ll tell ya a story or two, maybe even one about that time I almost won the pie-eatin’ contest at the county fair. Almost, I tell ya! That darned blue ribbon went to Mrs. Higgins, but I swear she cheated. Anyway, that’s a story for another time.
This Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame, it’s a good thing. Reminds us that hard work and dedication pay off. And that’s somethin’ we all need to remember, whether we’re athletes or just plain folks tryin’ to make our way in the world.
They got folks from all kinds of sports in there too, not just your runnin’ and jumpin’ and throwin’ kind. Hockey players, swimmers, wrestlers, all sorts. It’s a real mix, I tell ya. And that’s what makes it so special. It shows ya that there’s more than one way to be great, more than one way to make your mark.
And it ain’t just for the young folks neither. They got folks of all ages in there, from teenagers to, well, let’s just say folks who been around the block a few times. It just goes to show ya, it’s never too late to chase your dreams, never too late to be the best you can be. And that’s a mighty fine message if you ask me.
So, yeah, the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame. It’s somethin’ special. It’s somethin’ to be proud of. It’s a reminder that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and you work hard. And that’s somethin’ we all need to hear from time to time, ain’t it?
