Hey there, y’all! Let’s yak a bit about Coatesville sports, you know, the stuff them young’uns do for fun and whatnot. Don’t rightly know why you wanna hear it from an old biddy like me, but here goes nothin’.
First off, we got that there Coatesville Area Senior High School. Big place, they say. Got all sorts of sports teams, like basketball – both boys and girls, mind you – football, baseball, the whole shebang. Them kids sure do run around a lot. Heard tell they got a fella, a big shot, calls himself the Director of Athletics. Fancy name, huh? He’s in charge of all them young’uns and their games, I reckon. Phone number’s 610-383-3730, extension 81513, if you need to pester him.
Then there’s them Red Raiders. That’s the school’s team name, like the Eagles or somethin’. Them boys basketball team, they done pretty good last year, so I heard. Won a bunch of games, they did. Fourteen and eight, that was their record, before they got all hot and bothered in them district playoffs. Even went to some fancy state championship, the PIAA, they called it. Don’t know what that means, but it sounds important. You can find their news and stuff online, I guess, if you’re into that sort of thing. Schedules, rosters, rankings, they got it all. Don’t ask me what a roster is, though.
- Boys Basketball: Them boys jump and run and throw a ball in a hoop. Keeps ’em outta trouble, I suppose.
- Girls Basketball: Same as the boys, but with girls. They’re just as feisty, them gals.
- Football: Now, that’s a rough game. Big fellas smackin’ into each other. Don’t quite understand it, but folks seem to like it.
- Baseball: Hit a ball with a stick, run around some bases. Sounds simple enough, but them boys get real serious about it.
Now, if you ain’t into them high school games, there’s other sports around here too. Coatesville, PA, 19320, that’s the place to be, they say. We got some professional teams, though they ain’t exactly in Coatesville proper. You gotta drive a bit, but it ain’t too far. There’s the Reading Royals, the Wilmington Blue Rocks, Reading Fightin Phils, Philadelphia Spinners… and even some soccer fellas, the Philadelphia Union. Heard tell there’s even the Aberdeen Ironbirds if you go a bit further. Don’t rightly know what all them sports are, but folks pay good money to watch ‘em, so they must be somethin’.
And if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ a little less… fancy, we got amateur teams too. Them Dutchland Derby Rollers, they skate around on roller skates, I think. And the Brandywine Roller Derby, same deal. Then there’s the Allentown United Football Club, but that ain’t football like I know it. They kick a ball around with their feet, not their hands. And there’s somethin’ called Skateaway in Shillington. More skating, I guess.
Coatesville Athletics, they got themselves a social media page, too. Instagram, I think they call it. Showin’ off pictures of them young’uns playin’ their games. Got themselves over a thousand followers, they do. Always postin’ about the weekly schedule, tons of home games, they say. Folks seem to like lookin’ at it, though I don’t rightly see the appeal. Pictures of sweaty kids, that’s all it is to me.
So, there you have it. A whole bunch of sports stuff in and around Coatesville. Them young’uns got plenty to keep ‘em busy, that’s for sure. And if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to watch, well, you got plenty of choices, from high school games to the pros. Me? I’d rather sit on the porch with a glass of sweet tea, but that’s just me. Each to their own, I always say. Now, you go on and enjoy your sports, y’hear?
Just remember, whether it’s them Red Raiders or them fancy professional teams, it’s all just games. Folks gettin’ all worked up over who wins and who loses. Me, I just hope them kids have fun and don’t get hurt too bad. That’s all that really matters in the end, don’t you think?
Anyways, I gotta go now. Got chores to do and whatnot. You youngsters have fun with your sports and stay outta trouble. And don’t forget to call your grandma once in a while, ya hear?
