Well, howdy there! Let me tell ya’ll about this here Colbert County Sports Hall of Fame. It’s a big deal ’round these parts, ya know.
This thing, it’s all about celebratin’ them fellas and gals who were real good at sports. You know, the ones who could throw a ball far, run real fast, or jump higher than a corn stalk in July. They call ’em athletes, I reckon.
They got this here fancy ceremony every year. This year, it was in April, on the twenty-eighth day, at the Ritz Theater in Sheffield. Sounded real nice and proper. I heard tell it cost ten dollars to get in, but I ain’t been to one of them things myself. Too busy tendin’ to my chickens, ya see.
But folks say it’s somethin’ special. They get all dressed up and go clap for these sports stars. They give ’em awards and speeches and such. Must be a sight to see.
- They got all kinds of folks in there. Basketball players, track stars, baseball fellas – you name it.
- If they was good at sports and came from Colbert County, chances are they might end up in that Hall of Fame.
- I heard tell they got over two hundred and forty folks in there already! That’s a whole lotta sportin’, I tell ya.
Now, I don’t know much about sports myself. I’m more of a gardenin’ and cookin’ kinda gal. But I do know that these folks worked hard to get where they are. They practiced and sweated and probably got a few bumps and bruises along the way. So it’s good they get some recognition, ya know? Makes folks feel proud of their hometown and all.
Colbert County Sports Hall of Fame, that’s what they call it. It ain’t just for the old-timers neither. They got new folks goin’ in every year. Just heard about this fella, Jason Pruitt, got in this year. He was a star basketball and track fella back in ’98, graduated from Colbert County High School, they said. See? They keep addin’ ’em all the time.
I reckon it’s important to remember these things. It shows the young’uns that hard work pays off. And it gives folks somethin’ to talk about at the dinner table besides the weather and the price of eggs.
They got a Facebook page, I heard. Colbert County Sports Hall of Fame, they call it. Got all sorts of pictures and information on there. I ain’t got no computer myself, but my grandson showed me some pictures once. Looked like a bunch of happy folks, that’s for sure.
If you wanna go to one of them ceremonies, you gotta get a ticket. Ten dollars, they said. You can get ’em at the door, or maybe at some box office beforehand. I ain’t sure exactly, never been myself, ya know. But if you’re interested, you can call this number: 2256-412-2184. That’s what I heard, anyway. Don’t go callin’ me if it ain’t right!
Anyways, that’s about all I know about this here Colbert County Sports Hall of Fame. It’s a place where they remember the folks who made our county proud with their sportin’ skills. It’s a good thing, I reckon. Keeps the community spirit alive and gives folks somethin’ to cheer about. And that ain’t a bad thing in these times, I tell ya.
So, next time you hear about the Colbert County Sports Hall of Fame, you’ll know what it is. It’s about celebratin’ our local heroes, the ones who could run, jump, and throw like nobody’s business. And that’s somethin’ worth rememberin’, ya know?
They got a committee, too, that picks who gets in. Smart folks, I guess. They look at all the nominations and decide who deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. It ain’t easy, I bet. Got to be a lot of good athletes comin’ outta Colbert County.
So there you have it. A little somethin’ about the Colbert County Sports Hall of Fame. It’s a part of our history, a part of our community. And it’s a reminder that even in a small place like this, big things can happen.
