Alright, guys, gather ’round, let me tell you about my weekend adventure at the Eastern Iowa Sportshow. I’ve been going to this thing for years, and it’s always a blast. So, this year it was held on March 10-12, 2023, at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. That place is huge, you know, a multi-purpose stadium right on the University of Northern Iowa campus.
So, I grabbed my buddy, and we headed out early Saturday morning. We got there right when the doors opened at 9:30 am. I heard it would be open until 8 pm that day. Man, the place was already buzzing! This was the 46th annual show, presented by Ford. Can you believe it? 46 years!
First thing we did was just walk around and take it all in. There were so many booths! Everything from fishing gear to hunting supplies, boats, RVs, you name it. I spent a good chunk of time checking out the latest fishing rods. I’m always on the lookout for a good deal on those.
- We watched a few demos. One guy was showing off some fancy new lures, and another was demonstrating how to fillet a fish like a pro. Pretty cool stuff, even though I already know how to do it.
- We also checked out some of the hunting gear. I’m not a big hunter myself, but it’s always interesting to see what’s new. My buddy was eyeing a new rifle, but he didn’t pull the trigger, so to speak.
- Later, we grabbed some food from one of the vendors. Overpriced, as usual, but hey, it’s part of the experience, right?
I even ran into a few people I knew from my local fishing club. We chatted for a bit, swapped some stories, and made plans to hit the river soon.
I also noticed there was something about the Iowa high school football, with live scores from different teams. I guess that’s a big deal around here, but it’s not really my thing. I heard some guys, Owen Siebring and Curtis Feder, were previewing the games. Good for them, I suppose.
A Great Day Out
By the time we left, it was late afternoon. We were tired, but it was a good kind of tired. We had a great time, and I even managed to snag a few deals on some fishing tackle. All in all, it was another successful year at the Eastern Iowa Sportshow. If you’re into the outdoors at all, I definitely recommend checking it out next year. You won’t regret it!
