Okay, so, the other day I was thinking, “I gotta get into this ‘executive sport’ thing.” It sounds fancy, right? Like, big-shot CEOs and team presidents doing their thing. So I started digging around.
First, I hit up Google, just to see what this whole executive sport deal was about. Turns out, these folks are the big bosses of sports teams – pro, college, even the minor leagues. They’re the ones making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes, you know, the business side of things.
Then, I thought, “Alright, time to get my hands dirty.” I started looking into local sports teams. I checked out community centers, schools, you name it. I figured, if I wanna get into this, I gotta start small, right?
And man, it’s a whole different world out there! It’s fast, it’s competitive, and these sports account executives, they’re like the heart of it all. They’re the ones bringing in the money, making deals, keeping the whole operation afloat.
So, I started talking to people. I hit up some folks I knew who were connected to local sports organizations. I asked them about internships, volunteer positions, anything to get my foot in the door. It wasn’t easy, but I kept at it.
And you know what? It started to pay off. I landed a volunteer gig with a local youth basketball league. Nothing fancy, but it was a start. I was helping out with their social media, their website, basic tasks that actually mattered, and just getting a feel for how things worked.
I also started reading everything I could find on sports management, sports business and even sports. I bought some books, read articles online, you know. I had to learn the language, figure out how this whole world operated. I even enrolled in a sports management online course, which had been quite beneficial so far.
- Spoke with contacts in local sports organizations.

- Began reading books and articles on sports management.
- Enrolled in a sports management online course.
It’s been a grind, no doubt. But I’m learning a ton, and I’m actually starting to see a path for myself in this executive sport world. It’s not gonna be easy, but I’m ready for the challenge. I think, with enough hard work and a little bit of luck, I can make something happen. I have to say this is not a sprint, but a marathon, and I am buckled up for the long run.
The End Result
After all that hustle, I finally got offered a real, paid internship with a minor league baseball team! It’s not the top yet, but it’s a huge step up from where I started. I’ll be working in their marketing department, helping them with promotions and fan engagement. It’s a chance to really get my hands dirty and learn from the pros. I’m super excited about this opportunity, and I’m gonna give it my all.
So, yeah, that’s my executive sport journey so far. It’s been a wild ride, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I am so pumped to see what the future holds for me in this amazing industry!
