So, I’ve been on this massive nostalgia trip lately, digging through old boxes and whatnot, and I stumbled upon something that I thought was long gone – my old collection of “First Wave” DVDs. Man, this show takes me back. For those of you who don’t know, “First Wave” was this Canadian sci-fi series that ran from like, ’98 to 2001. It was about this dude, Cade Foster, who gets framed for his wife’s murder, and while he’s on the run, he discovers that aliens are invading Earth. Sounds wild, right? It was, in the best possible way.
I remember being completely hooked on this show as a kid. The whole alien conspiracy thing, combined with the prophecies of Nostradamus, it was just so cool. Sebastian Spence, who played Cade, was awesome. Anyway, finding these DVDs got me all excited, and I decided I had to rewatch the whole series.
First things first, I checked if all the discs were still there. Thankfully, they were. Seventeen discs in total, which is a lot, I know. I gently took them out and inspected each one, making sure there weren’t any major scratches or anything that might make them unplayable. A few minor smudges here and there, but nothing serious. Phew.
Next, I grabbed my old DVD player, which is almost as ancient as the show itself. I dusted it off, plugged it in, and connected it to my TV. I had to fiddle around with the cables for a bit to get it working properly – old tech can be a pain sometimes. But, I finally got it sorted.
I started with Season 1, popping the first disc into the player. The familiar opening theme music started playing, and I was instantly transported back in time. I settled into my couch, grabbed some snacks, and started watching. The first few episodes were just as good as I remembered. It was a little cheesy at times, but that’s part of its charm. I watched until late at night, completely engrossed in the story.
Over the next few days, I kept up my “First Wave” marathon. I watched a few episodes each day, slowly making my way through all three seasons. It was like rediscovering an old friend. I noticed things this time around that I hadn’t caught when I was younger, little details and plot points that I had missed. It made the experience even better.
Finally, I reached the last episode of the last season. It was bittersweet, knowing that this was the end of the road. I put in the last disc and watched as the final scenes played out. It was a satisfying conclusion to the series, wrapping up the main storylines while still leaving a few things open-ended, the way I like it.
Rewatching “First Wave” was such a fun experience. It was great to revisit this old favorite and relive some of my childhood memories. If you’re into sci-fi and haven’t seen it, I definitely recommend checking it out. It’s a bit dated, sure, but it’s still a really entertaining show with a compelling story and great characters. And who knows, maybe you’ll get as hooked as I was.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go see if I can find my old “X-Files” DVDs. Time for another trip down memory lane!
