So, I’ve been digging into this whole “Louisiana UFC Fighters” thing lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I started off just kinda curious, you know? Like, how many folks from Louisiana actually make it to the big leagues in the UFC?
Getting Started
First, I just started Googling around, trying to get a feel for the scene. I found a bunch of articles and lists, but it was all pretty scattered. So, I figured, why not make my own list? I mean, how hard could it be, right? Famous last words, haha!
Diving Deeper
I started with the names I recognized. You know, the big ones like Dustin Poirier. Everyone knows Dustin, right? Then, I started finding these lists of fighters from different states and realized Louisiana has a decent number of them.
- Tim Credeur – This guy was on The Ultimate Fighter, season seven. He did pretty good, submitting three opponents in a row.
- Alan Jouban – This dude was a fighter and a model. I guess he made it work, going 8-5 in the UFC.
- Derrick Lewis – I’d seen him on lists of Texas fighters, but he’s often repping Houston, so he’s kinda an honorary Texan.
- Melvin Guillard – This guy has fought a ton of top-level fighters. Wins over Jeremy Stephens and Gleison Tibau? That’s legit.
- Macy Chiasson – She was on The Ultimate Fighter, season 28, after just two pro fights. Talk about jumping into the deep end!
Organizing the Chaos
Once I had a bunch of names, I needed to organize them. I made a spreadsheet, because who doesn’t love a good spreadsheet? I started putting in their records, their big fights, all that jazz. It was actually pretty fun, seeing it all come together. I even started watching some of their old fights on YouTube. Man, some of those were brutal!
Realizing the Scope
But then I realized, this wasn’t just about making a list. These fighters, they’ve got stories, you know? They’ve got these journeys from small gyms in Louisiana to the biggest stages in MMA. There are a Hall of Famer, multiple world champions, and also, Georges St-Pierre. And it is really interesting when I realized that California is probably #1, they have so many camps out there. Florida is worth a mention since they got the Blackzilians, and New Yorks got Serra-Longo. US reigns supreme as they have produced just shy of 80 champion fighters. Their closest challengers are Brazil, who have amassed around 30, followed by Russia, Japan and Canada.
Wrapping Up
So, yeah, that’s where I’m at now. I’ve got this big list of Louisiana UFC fighters, and I’m still adding to it. It’s been a lot more work than I expected, but it’s been cool, too. I’ve learned a lot about these fighters, about the sport, and about how much work goes into making it to the top. It’s definitely given me a new appreciation for what these guys and gals go through. And who knows, maybe I’ll even catch a live fight someday!
